He’s talking about the Trumpeter T-55
thanks, think i’ll go with the T72… they were in the first gulf war, right?
Yes, Iraq had T72-M1s in the Operation Desrt Storm (the Gulf War, current campaign is not the Gulf War or Gulf War II, but Operation, Iraqi Freedom, OIF) in their Republican Guard units.
If you build the T-72, use the Tamiya kit. The Trumpeter/Hobbycraft T-72 is a bad copy of the Tamiya kit.
Personally I wouldn’t pay 19 for it, however, I have picked up a couple at Hobby Lobby for 15 and recently for 6.50 when they had their half-off sale. I like them because you can modify the heck out of them and you aren’t out too much money compared to buying a Tamiya T-55. Externally they are pretty much the same vehicle so you can make all kinds of neat conversions with them such as the Tiran 4 and 5 for Israel as well as the Ashzarit (APC based on T-55 chassis).
Look on E-Bay and at Hobby Lobby if you want to build this bad-boy IMO.
The T-72 in the left of my signature line is the Trumpeter T-72 and the vehicle on the right of my signature is the Trumpeter Type 69 modified into a Tiran 5. Both can work pretty well if you want to put the time into them.
BTW, right on HeavyArty. lol I just read the part where you suggested using the cheap one to use the resin on instead of the Tamiya. Well, I second the motion! lol
Actually, I was advocating using the Trump version and fixing it yourself with a little TLC and scratchbuilding. I am not a big advocate of resin sets. They are usually overpriced and I haven’t heard many good things about AEF. The rest of the stuff was a joke. I hate PE, fruils and the like. I would rather use some good old modeling techniques and scratch it myself. I think the model comes out better that way anyhow. Your idea is good too.
