What was the “backdating a phantom” article in this month’s FSM magazine about? wasn’t it E to J? Take a look and hopefully this will provide you with some ideas.

E to a J would be extremely difficult, nose is completely different you would be better off buying a monogram or hasegawa J model. Article in FSM is backdating a J to a B.

If you want a J model, they’re pretty easy to find. I don’t know what scale the Monogram F-4E is, but good J models are made by a number of companies in 1/72 and 1/48 scale. There’s even a nice 1/32 scale J model, but I forget who makes it.
