How good is the Trumpeter 1/350 Sovremenny class destroyer?

I’m interested in that kit. I think Trumpeter has the 956 and 956E… Which are the differences between them?.. How good are the kits, anyway?.. What comes in the box?.. photo-etched parts maybe?.. Thanks in advance. Most regards.

José

Over at the Steelnavy site there is a long review with lots of pictures of the sprues. You might want to have a look. It makes mention of the differences as well.

The 1/350 Sovremmenyy is followed by 1/350 Slava and 1/350 Udaloy,in February. Trubeter is so stupid because they don’t produce the 1/350 KIROV. Why they don’t do that? Just imagine the hole Russian fleet in 1/350: 1/350 Kuznetsov, 1/350 Slava , Udaloy, Sovremmeny but the Kirov is missing!!

Exactly right … Not only is it one of the most powerful surface combatants ever built, it’s also a remarkably beautiful class of warships and decidely unique and historic. Whether in pre or post USSR configuration, it would be an awesome kit to build and display. I think it would be come as popular as the Iowas, at least outside the USA where the bias isn’t all there.

I built that one last year with the Gold Medal models brass and came up with a real nice replica. To the best of my recollection , it went together very nicely - no fit problems ! As I look over my left shoulder it sets proudly on it’s shelf - the only bad thing is I used poplar for the base and it warped slightly (have to get around to fixin’ that one day)

The Kirov is the REAL jewel. And considering that Trumpeter has already given us all these other, shall we say “unexpected”, ships, it would only stand to reason that it’s only a matter of time before they give us one.
