im kinda new to modeling ive only been at it about a year and i was wondering if anybody has tips on weathering a realistic sherman and what colo to paint the tracks
I don’t have an airbrush either (yet) but for a Sherman, get hold of a Tamiya rattlecan olive drab. works like a charm… tracks all depend on the terrain your model is in. but definately you want to drybrush with metallic grey or steel when you are done.
The Tamiya sprays would be a good bet. Once you do that, dry brush some lighter colors and use some ground up pastels for dirt and dust.
I painted my tracks a base coat of Tamiya Hull Red (Model Master Rust will do). Heavy wash of dark brown and black, dry-brush steel and then paint the rubber pad chevrons a dark dark grey…they were rubber.
Here is my Sherman.

thank you for your help jwest and tankergeof
no problem. If you run into any problems, just post it and someone will help you out
If you need another idea, paint the base coat, then, successive coats of dry brushing–you first rub the brush with paint on it against another surface, then when it seems dry scrub away at corners and edges on your vehicle-use lighter shades of the same color…
totten- I emailed you a couple of ideas
thank you everybody
anymore tips for painting tracks
paint them before you put them on…easier that way. Also, if you are doing the Tamiya 1/35th Sherman test fit the tracks first- mine were two links too long, so I trimmed one off of either end. You can dust the tracks with pastel chalk to make them dusty too
