how do u do german camoflouge tht has the soft coloring or camoflouhge on the late war tanks and armor
You’re going to have to be a little more specific with what your asking as there was no set rule for german camo. Soft colouring is just from faded paint. If you mean soft edged camoflage, you can either use soft masks for the pattern, or just free-hand it. Soft masks, by the way, is a mask of the pattern raised slightly off the surface to allow a little overspray from the airbrush to blur the edge between colours. And if by late war camo, you mean ambush, you just paint your base camoflage, and make a mask of the pattern of either “blowing leaves” which was triangles or streaks, or “forest shaddow” which was circles, and use that to spray on your spots.
Speaking of which (ambush pattern), I believe there was an article in FSM a year or two ago that talked about how the author made and used masks for the leaves. Does anybody recall which issue it was?

I know there was one in the 20th aniversary issue, that was for small scale, which is where I got my technique, but I don’t recall one from earlier but then again [blasphemy] I havent got all the FSM magazines since I started buying them [/blasphemy] so maybe someone else could help me out on that one.
It was in a 2000 issue, can’t recall the month but, the author did the base color and then used low tack tape. He cut out the shapes of triangles, applied them after the base coat was dry and sprayed the rest of the camo pattern. When finished, he then used a template, with the triangle pattern and mixed the colors (Red Brown triangles on the Dark Green-Dark Green triangles on the Red Brown. The camo pattern was called “Blowing leaves” Since most of the triangles were situated in the swirls of the pattern.
It was a fine looking King Tiger too.
Thanks, Tigerholic!
I’ll go through my back issues this weekend. Gives me a starting point!

I found it. I think it was the March issue with the 2nd part in the April issue. Thanks again for giving me the starting point.
