How about Fort Hood? Anybody been there?

Lots of Armor there. I lost count of the times I’ve been at 'Hood.
Remember the Cowhouse Creek bridge sign? 28(?) soldiers have died crossing flooded Ft. Hood streams. Will you be next?
I have lots of memories of Hood… Who else?

First station was Ft Hood. Was a LT, then CPT, there from '95-'98 in 1st CAV. Assigned to 3-82 FA, B/26 FA, and 1-21 FA (MLRS). Was an FSO in 1-5 CAV and 1-7 CAV too. I floated my FIST-V accross good old Cowhouse Creek a few times. High adventure. CAV TRP I was an FSO for in FEB '96 burned down N. FT Hood by a range fire. Shut down training for 3 days and we had to go out and fight the fire. Would love to go back and Live the Legend.

My father was staioned at an armory outside of Hood, with the 49th.

3-32 Armor, 1-12 Cav, 215 FSB 92-96

Used my HMMWV to push a lady’s car out of the low water crossing point. It literally swept her car from one side of the road to the next, those metal pipes were the only thing keeping her car on the road. Water was only about 6" deep (on the roadway) but was moving very fast. Water in the creek looked like those tsunami videos. She was nuts to try to cross.

1970-71, I was an Armor Crewman in 2/81 Armor (Red Lions) with the 1st AD. We had M-60s and M60A1s and it was my first assignment after Vietnam (1968-69), where I was in 2/1 Cav (Blackhawks) and we had M-48A3s.

I was stationed at North Fort with the Texas ARNG in the early 70’s (49th) and again during the First Gulf War at West Fort (504th MI). I go there about twice a month for medical appointments and the commissary. The growth of Fort Hood and the civilian communities would be a real suprise if you have not been there for awhile. Nice armor displays.

was there from 88’ to 90’. c-tab-26th field artillery. have fond memories…especially the summer heat! [:D]
