Here is an Academy F4U-1 Corsair in 1/72nd scale. Pretty much straight out of the box except for the decals and seatbelts. Decals are from Aeromaster, “Island Hopping Corsairs”. I chose an aircraft from VF-17. It was my first attempt at the USN 3 color scheme.
WOW that looks outstanding Mike, hope my 1/32 looks as good as yours does, keep up the great work
Rob
That kit really turned out well. Did it go together fairly well? I love the F4U-1. I saw this kit at a LHS and was thinking about picking it up.
Russ

I am working on a F4U-1D now and I just hope that it comes out as good as yours.

And again NICE BUILD [:D]

Very nice work Mike. Good looking Corsair.
Regards, Rick
Nicely done. Nice and clean. Should look nice on a clean shelf on display.
Excellent looking bird Mike. Good job.
Great job on the build.
Extremely clean build. Everythung is done right and looking good. Nice work in braille scale!
regards,
Steve
Beautiful build, Mike. You really nailed this one.
Mike,
Gorgeaous build! I love the paint work and unserstated waethering/panel accenting, it gives it such a realistic appearence! Thanks for sharing with us all!

A very nice and realistic build. Impressive for 1:72! Great job…

Hi Mike,
well done on the model, very impressive.
I spotted the tin of Altoids in the background as well…that amused me as I have the same tin on my desk.
Handy aren’t they? Both the Altoids and the tins that is.
Paul
Excellent job! The 3 color paint scheme looks great- very well done. And the panel lines look awesome. Great job on the canopy masking also.
Excellent work- makes me jealous!
Looks good! Hats off to you guys who do 1/72 scale! I struggle with 1/32 and 1/48. My hand isn’t steady enough to paint 1/72! Been trying to “learn” the art of airbrushing for 35 years. Maybe one day?
Love it!
Beautiful build, a little too clean for my tastes.
But that does not detract from it’s looks nor your execution and skills.
great job
Wow! Thanks for all the kind words.
russamys, I can recommend the Academy F4U-1. The Tamiya kit is better but for the price the Academy kit is great. It’s light years ahead of the Hasegawa offerings. It went together easy with no problems at all. The only thing to watch out for is the front landing gear doors. The kit locations are to low. Just glue them up higher. As with all Academy kits, throw the decals in the trash.
Toother1321, I like to use washes for weathering. I used a raw umber oil paint/turpintine wash on my builds. I’m a little timid, so I like to keep it subtle. I use as pastels too. Try these videos, they helped out a bunch when I started modeling aircraft again after a long layoff. http://www.scaleworkshop.com/workshop.htm
Dubau, Yep. Right out side Philly in the Langhorne area close to the NE. I worked in CC for 8 years until I quit my job about 2 months ago. Couldn’t stand that Septa commute. Plenty of time to build now!
paul_toz, love those Altoids. I’m a firm believer in fresh breath. Can’t get enough of those little boxes!
wibhi2, Yeah, I know. It should be a little dirtier. After all it’s a Island hopping Corsair. Those things were hard to keep clean.
