Hot of the Workbench! A-7D Corsair II 140TFW, 120 TFS "CO"

This my 1/72nd scale A-7D Corsair II from an old AMT/ Ertl kit. It wears a typical SEA wrap-around scheme circa 1965 Vietnam. I scratch-made the intake cover by heat forming .010 sheet styrene. I added a resin pilot figure created from an RTV mold I made from a Monogram F-4E Phantom kit pilot. No after-market parts were used, instead improvements to the port side gun vent and panel detail were done in-house. The kit AGM-65 Mavericks were poorly detailed and inaccurately shaped so I replaced them with a pair from a Hasagawa weapons set. Using my 4 year old daughter as a trogen hourse; “Murphy” ruined the kit decals with a spash of orange juice (nice…). Replacement stencil decals for the mavericks were made on my laser printer. The camo scheme was done free-hand using MM enamels and my Iwata HP-C airbrush. I finished the model with a sludge wash and sealed the finish with Testor Dulcote Laquer. Over-all good kit, looking forward to the Italeri A-7D new release due in June!
Hope ya like!

[:)]Thanks for sharing the photos. It’s a really good build. I’m still researching a 1/48 scale Hasegawa A-7E I’ll be working on shortly and appreciated the details you/ve worked up.

Greg, a great looking build and a fantastic paint job. The freehand camo in 1/72 is really great work. You obviously have mastered that HP-C. Thanks for sharing, keep em coming.

Hey that’s a great looking build! [8D] Very convincing in the airbase setting. Thanks for sharing.

Wow lovely build ,quite refreshing too.
Great detailing and sharp airbrushing.
I love the second pic very much it looks like just another day
in Danang during that period.(You got the haze just right)
I know 'cos I live in the SEA region.

Great looking Corsair Greg, and from my home state, too!

Very, very nice freehand work on the camo. Aren’t Iwata’s just great? Not that you wouldn’t have achieved the same results with any other brush at your hands.

I admire you for doing all the custom work “in house”.

Keep up the great work and show us more!

Excellent work!

Great Job, I love the look against the backdrop.

Hey plasticmod992;
I’ve worked that plane when it was wearing the Euro Scheme back before they where traded in for Bolck 30 F-16C’s at Buckley ANGB, CO it’s kinda weird seening it in the SEA scheme wearing the Speed Well name badge, looks great keep up the fanstastic work

Different post - question answered. Again, beautiful build. I’ve got the Fujimi in my to build pile.

Beautiful. I love the camo scheme! Thanks for sharing.

Gents; thanks for the kinds words; I didn’t expect this kind of reaction! I was most pleased more with the performance of the airbrush than the kit-to be honest. Again thanks and I look forward to seeing you alls finished masterpieces! Next up is a 1/72nd scale T-38C Talon done in the current “Orca” camo scheme; Light Ghost and Gunship grays. Well, back to the workbench I go!

Beautiful bird!! Keep’em comin’!!

Beautiful job on the Corsair, Greg!

The paint job is fantastic…very nice.
