Are the wing drop tanks used on the F-18 the same as its centerline drop tank, or are they different? I’m asking because my Revellogram Hornet has a centerline tank only, but I was able to bogart a pair of centerline tanks from someones spares box. I’d like to model the Hornet in the three tank configuration.
If I’m not mistaken there are two different drop tanks for an F-18, a 440 gallon and a smaller 330 gallon either of which can be centerline or wing fixed.
Thanks TCBlonski,
So that begs the question: Can all three of the same size be carried at the same time? That is, can the Hornet carry three 330s or three 440s, or is it a 330 on each wing and a 440 under the belly?
You’re in luck![:)] The Centerline drop tank is the same as those used on the wing stations. The centerline just has a smaller/thinner pylon, but the tank is the same (330 gal). Got that straight from one of the Hornet squadrons at MCAS Miramar.[:D]
If you have other centerlines, just remove the pylon and attach straight to the wing pylons and you’ll be up and running! Let me know if you need extras.
Oortiz… just a little info about the tanks they were made in Isreal and are spon fiber glass one single strand of glass spon around a mold. In the squardon I was in we use to take rain errosion and paint it on the first 18 inches to stop the wind from unraveling it. we would paint over the rain errosion with 26440 gray. was able to exstend the life of the tank that way.
