Hooray for Hollywood 2014 GB extended til July 4th

Hi Boss ;

I’ve been sanding the insides of the C-123 Fuselage halves along with the insides of the wing halves . There’s lots of little lugs on the inner side of most parts , so I broke out the 100 grade sandpaper and I’ll follow up with some wet and dry sandpaper to smooth things out . It was Mothers Day here in Australia , so we had a nice BBQ lunch .

John .

OOOPS, It’s Mothers day here too. Sorry. Both my parents have passed on. So, I wasn’t thinking about it[:$] Hope your BBQ turned out well.

And Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom’s out there [t$t]

So, I’m trying to do a little extra with the Batwing since it is pretty cut and dry. So, hopefully my phone will pick up some of the detail stuff I’m attempting. If not, I used my Waldren punch and die set to punch out little bezels for the instruments in the cockpit. I used different color sequence (sp) like green, yellow, red and orange. Did some dry brushing to bring out what little detail was in the cockpit, and decided to color the “seat” cushions grey to add a little contrast in the all black molded “office”. The instructions actually said to paint everything black. [:^)] O.K…that’s why I painted the “cushion” on the seat. Not sure if it is making it look like a worn seat…or a lousy attempt to make it look like a worn seat! The instructions say to paint the body of the Batwing dark grey. At first, I was like what?! But if I get it dark enough, it might just look good! Still waiting on my adapters and hose from TCPGlobal so I can use the compressor that has been sitting here dormant for a week now! [:@]. I’ll be ABing in no time! So here ya go…be gentle, remember, I’m the new OLD guy! [;)]

I think you did an excellent job with those instruments. It’s looking. . .very Gotham.

Good work on getting started, Eagle90. [:D] I’m still stuck in the planning stage!

I’ve actually been working on this:

And there’s a second one in the works. So my modeling time (of which there seems to be less and less) is kinda full. I was hoping to be finished with these, but… [:(]

Meanwhile, I have decisions about the model I have to make. I’ve already gotten these in:

But I’ve decided I don’t like this bridge (no translucent dome) and I need to decide what I’m going to do about the Bussard Collectors (those spinning things on the front of the engines). I did find some small low revolution motors from Hobby Engineering today, so I may do a spinning light show after all. This means more parts ordering. [:S]

The madness never stops.

Gary

Thanks checkmate! I wanted to get the “worn” look on the seat, but just don’t know. The instruments were not hard to do with the Weldren punch and die set. I bought that thing back in '96-'97 from a hobby store that was closing just outside of Eglin AFB. $40! First time I have used it! Had to take sandpaper to it and get all the rust off the taps! [:$] Rubbed them down with WD-40 afterwards to help them stay “fresh”.

Thank you for the kind words! I’ll be working on Bruce now. I’m thinking this will be a good figure to start with…it’s all black except for the face and the bat emblem on his chest…I can’t screw that up too much…can I? [:^)]

Thanks again!

Eagle90

Gary, you got a great build going with that saucer alone…but I have to say WOW! on the P-47! She is absolutely beautiful! That really caught my eye! Great job! Thanks for the kind words, and keep those pics coming! Great stuff! [Y]

Eagle, I think for a “worn” look, it works to dry brush a lighter color of the base–but then, I’m not so hot at weathering, so maybe someone else knows better.

O.K. Bruce might have to wait, [:)] I’m wanting to extract every bit of detailing I can, and that is a great idea! I think I will try that tomorrow when I get home. If I can get just a little more detail! [:P]

i’m still stuck in the 3 other GBs and a weathering presentation to create though i have knocked out 2 GBs this month to date

whoever is doing THE DIRTY DOZEN halftrack squadron has the 12T on a mystery sale

http://www.squadron.com/product-p/tr01583.htm

Thanks Wayne. The only problem is I ordered it from Hobby Linc last week for 45.89 [^o)] It figures

I was just thinking I could send the one back to Hobby Linc and get the one from Squadron. But I wouldn’t be saving that much after i paid for the shipping back to Hobby Linc. I already figure I got a good deal on it from Hobby Linc’s discounts

So now its a case of live and learn.

But thank you anyway Wayne

buy iy in case you screw up the first one. i’m sure down the raod you could sell it for the same proce you bought. i do that sometimes when the mystery deal is really good. picked uop an ASU-85 and swapped it for a modern towed 155 and got the hobbybvoss modern us tank transporter for $54 including shipping. won’t be selling that one.

Here is the packaging for George Peppard’s “Blue Max” Pfalz D-III.

The instructions are very helpful for building the film version, complete with all its inaccuracies.

I’ve been laboring with the engine, which is loaded with flash and troubled by substantially misaligned molds, leaving lots of clean up. In addition, it doesn’t fit in the cowling without a lot of filing, fiddling and fitting. This will not be a “shake-the-box” build. The entire kit is overly endowed with flash, actually.

I’ll post some photos when I have something worthwhile to post. In the meantime, a couple of “Max Facts,” which I hope to continue through the build, if there are enough interesting facts out there.

  1. The film “The Blue Max” is based on the first of three novels (The Blue Max was published in 1964) written by Jack D. Hunter, following the exploits of Bruno Stachel from World War I through World War II. The film was released in 1966.

Which leads to “Max Fact” number 2:

  1. Contrary to the film, Lt. Stachel does not die while testing a new aircraft in the latter days of WWI. In fact, he does not die at all.

It’s been enjoyable seeing everyone else’s progress so far. Nice work, guys!

Nothing much to report, except I’ve decided on a plan for the lighting of the USS Enterprise kit. Nothing fancy, just a judicious use of reflective tape and paint. Found a nice build showing a model done this way and it looks quite good. No wiring or expensive LED systems for this one.

I’ve been cleaning and fitting parts, and the model has so many bad joins that I just shake my head. This is going to need a lot of filler and glue. [:(] I’m going to need Mr. Surfacer by the gallon!

No pictures this go around. Maybe when I’ve got something worth showing progress wise…

Gary

PS> Checkmateking02, that’s a nice looking Pfalz. The paint scheme should be interesting.

CMK2: here’s an interesting Blue Max fact for you…On a blackboard in Kettering’s office in the film you can see the squadron’s name and number, Jasta 11. This was actually the name and number of Von Richtofen’s Circus.

I hadn’t noticed that. MvR was probably in command of JG 1 by that time, and Jasta 11 was part of it. So it must have been a blooper when he asked Bruno to join his unit.

Nice catch, Pyrman. Thanks for bringing it up.

Everything looks like it’s moving along, albeit slow for some. My Halftrack came in today. I didn’t have a chance to do anything with it. but I’ll get some pics tomorrow, guess I should say later on today [8-|]

It was slow going on my end as I didn’t have my kit, but it should go better now.

Okay, Finally I can get going on this one. Sorry it took so long on my part.

Anyway, Here are the starting pics:
