Hooray for Hollywood 2014 GB extended til July 4th

John, looking forward to your build. I haven’t seen a Mach 2 kit put together before. I have heard that do have issues, but i have my eye on one of theirs.

Bish , I do have a liking for Mach 2 kits and I have had some small success so far with seven of their builds ;

Lot’s of other on-going Mach 2 builds and plenty in the stash . I hope to build 10 C-123 Provider aircraft and so far the C-123 has been the most challenging .

Ken , sorry for jumping the starters gun a little on my C-123K build . Although my right arm injury is still giving me some issue’s and being right handed , I can’t really do all that much anyway . Apart from just cleaning up some flash , most of the heavy filing , with a steel file will have to wait . I’m just a little frustrated I can’t work on my other builds in fear of dropping something . It’s a bummer went you can’t work on your kits .

John .

John - i understand, waiting is the hardest part. We’re all the same, when we gt it home, we just want to tear it into to it LOL

What did you do to your arm? That would be hard for anyone (not just in our hobby) to deal with.

Those are some nice looking planes you have there.

I slipped down the stairs here at home and my wrist and elbow took the brunt of the fall . Thankfully nothing broken but my arm did sweal up quite a bit . Everything was healing okay albeit slowly but I may have aggravated my wrist again by getting out the extension ladder the other day and fixing a piece of fibro under the eaves on the house , which had come loose . I bought one of those Thermoskin wrist and elbow support bands yesterday , I’ll see how they work out .

John .

Oh Ouch!!! I bet it was sprained. I’ve always heard a sprain is worse than a break. Yea those are supposed to be pretty good. Good Luck

I’m here with not too much to do because I’m waiting for some GB’s to start. I grew up building WW2 aircraft, and now that I got back into them, I can’t seem to stay interested in the Auto GB here. I just finished a P 47 razorback, and have a P 47 Bubbletop sitting here waiting for Operation Overlord GB (June 6th) to start.

Oh Well. I’ll have my P 40 for this GB soon. So that will be okay.

Hi Ken,

I’m a bit the same. I seem to be able to concentrate on aircraft, or cars, but not more than one of them at the time. For some reason I seem able to slip in a ship or tank whenever I feel like it, but I have whole years where I just build aircraft or just build cars, with no interest in the other.

This year, I am trying to stay involved with both. Let’s see how it goes.

Cheers

Tony

John,

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I had a torn ligament in my elbow and understand just how incapacitating it can be! I look forward to seeing your C-123 build.

Ken: You can search on Youtube to find clips from “Flying Tigers” if you want, but those P-40s were not actual aircraft.

Actual combat footage was used in some of the scenes. Movie models were used to portray the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk aircraft the Tigers actually flew, although they were only mock-ups which did no more than taxi. The covers protruding over the cylinder heads of the V-8 automobile engines that propelled the mock-ups are noticeable, and the aircraft lack elevators on the rear horizontal stabilizers. John Wayne’s character arrives at the base on the one-off Capelis XC-12, a failed design that found a new life as a non-flying movie prop. It also was used in the film Five Came Back.

Now you can build a P-40 with an automobile engine! [;)]

John, is the one on the left a B-45 Tornado. If so thats the kit i am after. I believe it has markings for an aircrfat based at Sculthorpe with the 47th BW.

I broke my right wriste a couple of years ago and it was a real bummer try to model for a month or so. Make sure you rest it mate.

Hmmm, I didn’t know all this. Do they even make cars (& engines) in 48 scale?

Yes Bish , that’s the B-45 Tornado . I built mine as a RB-45C version , the kit gives you both options

Here’s a scan of the “complex” instruction sheet

Box art

Here’s a link to some WIP pic’s of the Tornado build

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/29/t/129001.aspx?sort=ASC&pi240=103

Just scroll halfway down the page and you will see the WIP pics . I’m thinking of buying another one and build it as a B-45 Bomber . I’m not sure if I mentioned it in the original RB-45C WIP pic’s but the fit of the front and rear engine intakes onto the underwing engine nacelles were not the best ; So it would be much easier to fit those pieces first then add the whole nacelle section to the wing and then glue the wings onto the fuselage . I hope all that makes sense .

There’s no mention about which bomb wing the decals represent , I would be interested if you could share some more info on where the B-45 was stationed .

John .

Thanks john, i have got to pop back out, but will check that thread a little later. I don’t know much about the aircraft, but it fits in nicely with a personal project of mine, to build aircraft from all of the airfields in Norfolk. Both the B-45 and RB 45 were stationed at Sculthorpe in Norfolk with the 47th BW betwen 52 and 58 when they were replaced with B-66 and RB-66. Theres a review of the kit on Swanny’s Models.

www.swannysmodels.com/B45.html

If i have read that right, the kit gives you the options to build both versions but only has the markings for the B-45, or did i misunderstand that. Anyway, it says the markings are for the 47th BW, so that will fill a nice gap in my project. I just need to get around to getting the kit.

If you allow cross overs, I’d like to enter my Pilatus PC-6C from the movie " Air America ". Also, any one wishing to cross over to the Air America Group Build, please feel free to do so:)

Dogfish_7 - Welcome aboard. Cross Overs are fine. But our start date is May 2. The Cast/Player list is updated

Gary, I’ve been looking at pics of the flying tigers movie, But I’m not seeing the covers. I guess I’ll have to watch the movie again LOL [:D]

Okay, I think I seen them. There more to the top of the fuselage, Right??

Is everyone ready for the premeire May 2nd? There’s still time, but it is growing short.

Yep, i am ready. I still have two on going builds, trying to get at least one done this week. I will be starting with the probe droid and i don’t see that takeing to long.

back from a small contest and ready to go. 688 and alfa are in and i am researching some colors. my FFG-7s (also from the movie but not in this GB since i i will be doing a short-hull for the first one and REUBEN JAMES in the movie is a long hull. have 2 more in the stash and they will be long hulls). weather turned so no priiming untril it warms up again and this makes 6 GBs in progress.

I’m ready to start the shoot, er… build.

Cheers

Tony

Hi everyone. I watched “The Dirty Dozen” last night. Now, I’m wanting to do the halftrack that Lee Marvin and the survivors leave the chateau in. I looked it up at internet movie car database. It says it is a 12 ton halftrack. but the model kits that look like it says 8 tons

I figure that a lot things online are wrong. so, I’ll probablty go with that too.

Actually, the info on the IMCDB is correct for the 12t Diamler-Benz half-track.
