modelbuilder, I live in Bangkok, Thailand. My display cases have different origins. The two big wall-based cases (300cm wide, 240cm high 45cm deep) in my show room were custom-built to my specification, each having 10 glass shelves with a wooden floor making 11 shelves total. In theory, each case can hold 4x13x11 = 572 standand 1:35 armors.The contracted price was about 15,000.- to 16,000.- baht each ($417-$444). I also bought 8 identical cases second-handed from a stationery store at only 2,500.- baht each ($69) which is 1/4 of its price 10 years ago. These are teak-framed, aluminum-wrapped cases that you can see 6 of them in my show room and 2 at the side of my house. For other display cases, some were bought as is and some were custom-built.
tigerman, I’ve never sold any of my finished kits. Anyway, I think that when I retire late next year I may have to “recycle” some of them. That’s a way to reclaim display space, earn some income to buy new kits and to keep my modelers busy. I don’t know whether this idea will work, but we’ll see.

Andy, I think you answered that question already. Do you think that if I got
married my wife will let me do this?. But I know a fellow modeler in Thailand who has a wife and two daugthers who still manages to have 1,600+ kits in his collection.

Just out of curiosity, have you had your modelers paint anything up with Thai markings? Those would be really neat. Anyways, if you end up ever having to get rid of these, make yourself and your model’s quality known to military museums worldwide, I’m sure that they’ll take them off of you!

I have only one airplane (F-86 F40 1:32) and a few tanks (M-113, ) with Thai markings. My collection is here to stay, it’s not for sale. I’ve spent a lot of money and time in acquiring kits, having them built. It took time not in years, but in decades! But thanks for your suggestions anyway.
