Home Improvement Spray Paint vs HS Spray Paint

Has anyone used Major Brand Spray Paints (Rustoleum or Krylon) colors (Primer, Flat/Gloss Black, Flat Brown, etc) vs the 3 oz Testors/Tamiya that cost me $4.50 - $ 6.00 a can.

Since I use Black (Road Wheels) and Primers alot I would like to cut costs.

Thanks

Walmart.

$1 a can. What I always use.

disastermaster,

Thanks for the quick reply.

A buck! Thats what I’m talkin about!

Do they make it in Primer Grey, Red Oxide, and Flat Black?

Thanks

I’ve tried them all Rustoleum, Krylon, Plastic Kote and Krylon gloss and matt.

Never had a problem yet

Thanks landspeed

I don’t have the flat black and grey #'s but the red primer is 20011.

Yupper… Use them all the time… Wal-Mart, mostly… Unless I need a specific FS color match, I buy my rattle-cans ANYWHERE but hobby shops… Primers too…

[#ditto]

I don’t know about colors, but wal mart auto primer works superb. Like he said, it’s a buck a can, and I use it 98%of the time

Krylon is good stuff. Ditto for the Wal-Mart brand.

Well I went to Walmart yesterday, which went against my fiber but I had to buy the House Brand Primer, Red Oxide and Flat Black to see for my self.

The price is right @$.94.

I laid 1 coat of primer on some road wheels yesterday when I got home and this morning all looked fine. Next up is the Red Oxide over the primer.

One ??? though. While in Walmart I saw a “Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear Matte” for $2.97. Has anyone used this instead off the Testors DULLCoat and got the same results?

I use the Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear Matte and the Gloss for my armor. It looks a little blotchy when wet but evens out.

Cool!

I haven’t, but I wouldn’t expect the same results, since Dullcoat is laquer rather than acrylic… But if it dries dead-flat, I’d use it… Personally, I use “Treehouse” brand clear flat acrylic (3.10 for a 13 oz. can at Hobby Lobby, but I use the 40% off coupons for “staple” paints too, so that’s about a 1.80 a can)

I use the Walmart primers, too, on plastic and on metal, it works very well, and yes, the price can’t be beat.

The problem I found with the Walmart primer color place brand is you can scratch it off with your thumb nail after 24hrs where you can not do this with the Tamiya primer. At least in my test with the same plastic and these two primers.

George

I use Rustolum automotive grey primer which lays down nicley IMO. for matt clear coat I use Valspare clear flat enamel which las down really smooth as well.

Bob

gpal,

I will keep that in mind to watch out for but I don’t think it should be a deal maker.

Well… Stop doing that…
