Holy Hot Dogs...the Oscar is done!

Hi all,

Put the final touches on the Fujimi 1/72 Ki-43-I Oscar project and thought I’d post the pics as promised. It was a very enjoyable build even though its just OOB. This is a great little kit that I look forward to building again one day soon and adding details!

This plane was with the 64th Sentai in Malaya during 1942.

Hope you liked it!

Happy modeling,

Joe Youngerman

Excellent build of this very nice little kit. Good work Joe! Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Absolutely awesome, Joe! Thanks for sharing the photos.

Regards,

Thanks for the kind words guys…glad you like it!

Joe

Beautiful work, Joe! Old “Oscar” is sure looking good, thanks! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

Thanks for the compliment Frank…BTW I like your Chinook a lot…I have a buddy who flew them and others in the army during Vietnam. He got shot down, in a Hughes “killer egg” I believe, at one point during the conflict but escaped capture!

Joe

Even though it’s “only” OOB, it sure looks great man, hope to see more work from you soon.

excellent work. love the camo Jason

Thanks Dan…I am just getting started on a Fujimi Gekko in 1/72 with plenty of added detail planned. Not sure yet what my other project will be…something single engine…I’m looking at my Stuka D-1 as a good possibility. (even though its yet another Fujimi kit!).

Joe

Joe,

Very clean build. It takes a pilots eyes to deal with braille scale!

Steve

Nifty build. Did you use a silver pen for the paint chipping?

Very nice finish. I really like it. I’m going to build my first 1/72 scale aircraft in many years due to inspiration like this. Thanks for sharing; I give it the now famous (if not a lil’ dorky) “Grandpa’s Seal of Approval.”

Thanks very much guys…glad you like it! Yes Swanny, I used a metalic silver Prismacolor Pastel Pencil for all of the chipping. It seems like the only way I can get chipping in 1/72 scale that I’m happy with. Larger areas can be a challenge though.
Dan, glad to hear you’ll give 1/72 a try! There are some fantastic kits in this scale and so much variety.

Joe

Nice work Ninedriver, Its time for lunch I think I will go get hot dog, you made me hungry.

Thad

Good-looking Oscar, Joe!

Looks good Joe. Just enough weathering to give that used, not abused look.

Looking mighty good! I like the varied colors on the panels on the belly. The cammo looks great and I really like the red arrow on the tail as well. Good stuff!

Hey you won an Oscar!!! good build bro… like your finish

Great Gotham-Cities Batman - it looks great!

LoL…I was waiting for someone to comment on the title! Seriously though, I’m pleased that you guys like it. I used a couple different shades of Alclad II for the belly Madda. There was a little too much contrast so I went back and lightly oversprayed the whole surface. I was not sure this would work with Alclad but I was pleased with the results and will use the technique again on future projects. The tail arrow is from an old Aeromaster set for the Ki-43 and it went on very easily…thank goodness!
