"Hollywood at War" Diorama Group Build

Just putting out some feelers for now, but I’d like to see if there’s enough interest in a group build of scenes from war movies. Any medium, any kit-type(s), any era, any scale, just so long as it is a recognizable & verifiable scene from a war movie. Examples: Captain Miller’s last stand from Saving Private Ryan, Stachel’s crash landing his Phalz III in The Blue Max, Patton’s stand-off with the strafing HE-111s in Patton, etc… Using models of the actual vehicles that were used in the scene is NOT required. (Like in the “Miller’s last stand” example, use a Tiger, not a vis-modded T-34 in the role of a Tiger, and no M-26s painted grey, pretending to be Panzer IVs.) Tentavive dates: To Be Determined, but NLT 1 DEC 08 for a start date.

sounds interesting…

I would defintely be interested in this. I have long had a couple diorama ideas up this alley.

Same here… I planned on getting ideas and making some notes during Veteran’s Day movie marathons… My Kelly’s Heroes dio, along with The Blue Max I’m working prompted me see if anyone else would take a shot at it…

Although I haven’t touched it for a while, I am currently working on a Saving Private Ryan Dio with the (T-34) Tiger. I would be into this build!

I am building it for the owner of the Tank from the film (it is the one that they blew the track off with the ‘sticky bombs’). We are currently rebuilding the Engine at the shop right now.

For those that are interested in this tank, I posted a thread about it. Just do a seach for SPR Tiger Inside and Out

Hans any chance my Bridge dio had any thing to do with this [:-^].

I like this idea. I’ve always wanted to do a dio of Stiener placing the mine on the track of the T-34-85.

“DEBARKATION!!!”

It certainly came to mind… [:D] I have been working on the Kelley’s Hero’s scene where Oddball put a paint round into the Tigers’ azz for some time, though… (I’m still waitng on the Tiger…)

There are two scenes from KH that I’ve thought of giving a go at.The one were Oddballs sherman comes over the wall and roll’s over the car and were he pull’s into the burnt out building slides up the gun barrel turns and say’s “It’s a Mark VI and we got em by the a##!!”

Talk to ya later gonna go pop in the DVD and work on my B-Tiger[^]

I think thats a sweeeeet idea I’m definitaly intrested.

I think I would do somthing from saving Privat Ryan or Batle of the bulge…Hummmmm the oping secen in battle of the bulge with the germans driving and the observation plane could be good…[:-^]

I’m going to wach a war movie now.

[:)]

Great idea. The possibilites are endless for this subject. Think of all the great scenes from Band of Brothers, Kelly’s Heros, Saving Pvt.Ryan etc. Now if only my dio skills were as good as my ideas needed them to be…

Erik

Yeah, I’ve been looking for a good excuse to do something inspired by Band of Brothers. If this thing starts in Dec / Jan, sign me up.

Steve

I often thought about a group build like this…I would be very interested…not sure what I would do…so many choices…

Mark

Looks like we may be generating some interest, so I’ll start this over in the Group Build hooch… /forums/983207/ShowPost.aspx

Someone with more computer savvy wanna take on the badge?

I’m doing it right now! beat cha to it! i’ll post some pics soon. I modified the tank to look exactly the same …only difference is that they must have used two tanks for the same shot…there’s a russian box on the left side that keeps appearing and disappearing…I chose to go without it! I am also having trouble getting the figures to be in the same positions as the movie and still be interesting…I’m just gonna go with my gut there. regards Sofa

I think if I join this group build I want to do the scene of the howitzer blowing back and forth through the house from the movie, “1941” Or the scene of John Belushi riding the tank through the streets of L.A.[;)]
