hoffman device in middle east

Hi to all and a Happy New Year [:D][}:)]!

Here’s a query for you guys. Does the U.S and allies ever used the Hoffman device in the middle east for training purposes?

Thanks.

If iam right that is miles gear your talking about? I dont know why they would use it in a combat maybe Heavyarty could answer that question.

Its that thing that they clamp around the tank cannon and used for training and maneuvers.[:D]

We did use MILES and Hoffman devices in Kuwait, during training before we crossed into Iraq. I have not seen any in Iraq though. We turned ours back in after the training exercise in Kuwait. So in the Middle East as a whole, yes, in Iraq, no.

I figured you would be able to answer his question HeavyArty.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. I GOT AN OLD M1A1 KIT THAT ID LIKE TO MODEL WITH IT SINCE I GOT SOME IN MY SPARES BOX.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS![:D]

The Hoffman device does not mount onto the gun tube on the M1A1 or M1A2 like it did on the old M60 or original M1 series tank. It was mounted just forward of the manhole cover (where the four bolt heads are) then was relocated to the mantlet when the M1A2 was fielded.
