Hobbytown USA Model Contest?

Hello all,
I was at the local Hobbytown the other day, and noticed a flyer for a model contest coming up. I was just wondering if this is a national thing across all of their stores around the country? Has anyone here participated in this contest before?

yep, its national. They have a Spring contest and a Fall contest. I beleive the Best of show for the whole country gets $500 gift certificate for Hobbytown.[:D]
I’ve participated in it, the turnout where I live is pretty small and its a light-laid back competition. Just be sure to have somebody whatching the models, A kid over here decided to play whith the best looking model there and brake it into pieces, then left like it didnt happen.[:(!][banghead]

I felt really sorry for the poor guy, from then on we all watched…

My local hobbytown has some fliers about the contest but I don’t know if they are participating or not. Sure could use that $500 on some paints and tools.

Kaleu brought up a good point. While it is a national contest, it’s pretty much up to the individual franchise owner if they wish to take part. One year my local HT USA shop had about 30-35 entries but the next time around they only had about that that many. So it fluctuates. I always like it when more people enter. It’s very encouraging to see that more people are taking part in the hobby.

In that past the models used to be voted on by customers who came in but now my local store just has the employees judging. Is it the same in other areas too?

I plan on participating in the contest at my local store. I think it’s on April 2nd.

Regards,

My local one does not participate in it. I have ranted and raved for nothing. Mine is all about RC’ers. They hold weekly races for those guys in the parking lot, but it must be too tough to humor me for one day. lol

That sucks, Heath.
Anyways, I think I will just go and observe this one coming up to see what kind of competition I am up against in my area, and the caliber of builds I’m facing. Then for the fall contest, maybe I’ll have something worthy to enter [:)]

Kik36,

Sorry to hear about your local HT USA catering only to RCers. When I worked at the one up here in GB we had TONS of people who came in for RC cars. That must have been about 75% of our business. The owner of the shop, however, made sure to cater to everybody though. He hired me because I was the resident plastic model aircraft guru. I worked along side with guys who knew an amazing amount about RC cars and planes and scale trains and war gaming and fantasy figures. It was a well-rounded crew. That’s the way it should be.

I have been several times to one around here and have enjoyed it. One store has a pretty good turnout and great competition. The new store is going to try one out and hope to see it do well also. If I were you i would take a few builds anyway. First one I went to I took my first three builds I did and woulnd up winning something on two of them.
