Hobbycraft kits?

Does anyone have any info on when Hobbycraft is planning to release the F9F-8 Cougar kit in 1:48? I’ve had it on pre-order with Great Models since early this year. The Hobbycraft site is of no help, just says temporarily discontinued. This a/c is hard to find in 1:48, and I’d get massacred by the wife if I bought the Collect-Aire kit!

Thanks,

If you haven’t already tried, check their website out.

Brian,

That would be great if they came out with this rare bird! I would love to have one but I’m not sure if I’d trust one from Hobbycraft. It’s just been my experience that their kits just aren’t very good. Poor fit, bad detail, etc. Maybe I just got some bummers but who knows.

Regarding the Collect-Aire kits, I have a plan because I’d love to snap of some of their kits. My wife loves and supports my hobby but some of those price tags are just astronomical. I let my wife buy whatever she wants. In fact, I actively support and encourage it! Then…when the time is right…I’m going to put on my best puppydog eyes and ask her most humbly if I could get one of their kits. I’ll wait until it’s within a few weeks of my birthday or Christmas or something like that. That way it won’t be GLARINGLY obvious that I want it for those days but, rather, she’ll think “I should let him get it for his birthday. That way I won’t have to get him anything.” LOL! I’m pretty sure it’ll work. My wife’s not dumb but she does know how much I like my models.

Best wishes!

Eric

The Hobbycraft 1/48 Panther & Cougar were first announced about 4 years ago. My guess is the releases have been permanently cancelled.

I once had an e-mail exchange with the guy who builds all their new kits for publicity pictures. He has seen every Hobby Craft kit up close and personal. They are a mixed bag. Their early kits were terrible, but they have improved. Their recent releases still have problems sometimes, but they have some nice kits too.

It pays to check the online reviews before buying one of their kits.

Then she probably won’t let you buy the 1/32 Fischer kit, but that one is supposed to be very good…

Just got my Twogar from Fisher Monday, after I had to give the single seater, painful as it was, to my partner, who built a masterpiece from it. The single-seater I thought was as good as it gets, but the two-holer is not only the finest resin/multi media kit I’ve ever seen, it is one of the finest kits – period – I’ve ever seen.

Yes, they cost $195, but it’s not much more than a Tamiya F-16. Great engineering went into ever part. From the one-piece hollow fuselage and fine trailing edges to all flying surfaces. Steel reinforced landing gear. The PE is beautiful, and even includes the rotars for the disk breaks! Plus, the Twogar has a fantastic color film piece for the faces on the PE insrument panel.

There are six schemes, including a Marine fast-FAC bird, four international orange or da-glo red and white birds, and a Blue Angels No. 7. The decal sheet, by Zotz, is the size of a small doormat, no exaggeration. This kit is a see-to-believe, save-those-pennies kit. And, what’s great about all three of the Fisher Cougar/Panther kits is that they are just as good for a beginner in multi-media as they are for the pro. And not a pinhole anywhere on it.

Next from Fisher: a 1:32 Sea Fury with a, so the word goes, superdetailed Centaurus engine to turn those contra-rotating props.

Still, I’d like to have the Hobbycraft kit too, since it’s in my scale and my budget, with the Eduard set to augment it. Now, if Hobbycraft would just do something about those dreadful painting instructions, or lack thereof.
