HobbyBoss 1/48 F4F-4 Wildcat Complete with weathered Decals now............pg-2

I built her right out of the box. Excellent kit with no issues. Hope you like.

Thanks for looking

Cheers

Fantastic! I love the way WW2 Navy planes look and yours is a beaut!

A decent build. With the heavy weathering on the airframe the bright, clean markings look out of place though.

Good point. I’ll fix that tomorrow.

Cheers

Other than the clean decals, IMO you have too much black on the gun ports. The rest of the bird looks good.

Hi Lancair,

Great job on the F4F! The “compound curve color demarcation” and aerials stand out among the many outstanding features of your build. A nice specimen for the collection indeed, my friend.

Rob- Great to hear some feedback on this kit. If you decide not to add the wing tanks, are there holes in the wing to fill like the Tamiya kit? Hopefully not, as it can be a real PITA. I’ll be looking forward to seeing those pics with the weathered decals- should make a sweet looking model over the top!

Another beauty Rob, glad to see you’re back at it!!!

Love them wildcats… keep it up!!!

Nice build Rob. No more to mention then what was already said.

Very well done Rob. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Nice looking Wildcat. I think that the weathering is appropriate for an aircraft that has been at sea for a period of time. Just one nitpick - there should be exhaust stains on both sides of the cowling, not just the right side (unless the right bank of cylinders had a burned valve?). Often they would exhibit a scorched area from the exhaust heat just aft of the cowl flaps where the exhaust exits.

Mark

Hi Mark,

The exhaust on the F4F-4 is on the bottom. The stain on the right side is from a small oil fire.

Cheers

Ya. The holes are there. If I ever build another HobbyBoiss Wildcat (and I will), I’ll remove them before I close the wings using stretch sprue.

Very nice, I’ll have to get one for myself. I agree, just carry over the weathering to the markings. Nice job!

Mike

Thanks for all your opinions and comments. As usual, you’re right. I applied weathering to the decals today. I think it looks good. What do you think?

Cheers

Nice, I like it.

Very nice correction. The new weathering does make the build look more consistent.

Nice build !

Chris

That looks realy cool. Love the work around the bolts.

Rob, looks good. I’m actually working on the same kit right now, side by side with the Tamiya kit right now. Hopefully mine will turn out as nice as yours… Here’s how it’s looking right now…
