Hobby Craft 1/24 P-51 Mustang curiosity

I have the giant size P-51,and as time goes by,I’m getting interested in building it (I’m a musclecar guy…period),and was wondering if any of you guys new much about this kit,and had any tips on it.I’ve never built an aircraft before, although I have been building cars for about 3 decades(i’m 37),so,I have a pretty good grasp on building techniques.Thanks.

Vinnie, you mean to tell me that you haven’t looked at that seventeen hundred cubic inch, two stage supercharged V-12 and said to yourself, “The heck with a HEMI, this thing is baaaaad!”

On a more serious note, it should be a straight forward build. I have the Airfix P-51 and Fokke-Wolf 190, and the only thing I can recommend is to pay attention to those wings. Keeping them straight while the glue sets is very important. I prefer to use Tenax and put the pieces together before you wick the glue into the seams. That way you can line everything up and use a straight edge to check before glueing. We can talk more if nobody else has any suggestions.

Does anybody know if the Airfix and Hobby Craft kits are the same mold?

I’ll be talking to you more, believe me.Hemi in the P-51…Hmmmmmmmm.

Vinnie, here is the first Chrysler HEMI engine mounted on a Dodge 3/4 ton truck. Remember this from the trivia quiz?

This is an inverted V-16 displacing 2,200 cubic inches!

No the Airfix and Hobbycraft kits are not the same molds, but the Hobbycraft and Trumpeter kits are the same.

Vinnie, that is if I can call you Vinnie
The main problem I have heard on the HC/Trump kits is the PE attachments for the flying surfaces. They apparently are tricky to get glued in and made to work. Most reviews say they have just glued the parts in place and not worried about the attachments. Other than that I think it’s a pretty easy build. Good luck and post some pics when you’re done.

Thank you Eagle!
I would have thought the Airfix was the same as the others, but not Trumpeter.
Hmmmm, I wonder why they spent so much on others, but not this one?!
