I am in the process of starting my preparation to build the Airfix 1:180 HMS Victory. Can anyone please recommend some good source materials:books, websites, aftermarket items, etc. to help with attention to detail. Obviously a first hand visit and thousands of photos would be invaluable as I only live an hour from her But time is never on my side during the day.
Hi Mike,
A great site is the Pete Coleman site. It’s more focused on the 1/100 Airfix-Heller kit, but thats not a problem. I’d really recommend you go there and look though it.

Mine is “Bill’s”.
Two good books, start with McKay’s Anatomy of the Ship: 100- gun ship Victory.
Longridge’s The Anatomy of Nelsons Ships is useful to a modeler, and some editions have great drawings by George Campbell bound in. This is kind of a nostalgia thing though, I’d not make it a priority.
By all means go see her, I envy you. I understand (?) that they may sell Campbells drawings at the gift shop, that would be ideal. If they do, and you buy them, be aware that they may be reproduced out of scale, and in any case get them printed to your scale.
Going to see her is on my bucket list. I envy you.
Thanks for that. She certainly is a site to behold. I have been down to her a number of times over the years and never get tired of wandering the decks. Haven’t seen the new paint scheme yet which is causing quite a stir here in the UK.
