I am looking to get canopy masks for my HK Models B-17F in 1:48 scale. I note that Montex has a mask kit (MM48520) for the B-17G. Does anyone know if there are any issues with using this mask kit on the B-17F?

Not sure re: the G vs F but poking around Squadron has a set of masks for your kit at a good price considering how extensive it is.
I was thinking there might not be a 1:1 match in the window shapes, but in looking at photos of an F and a G, I can’t pick out differences other than a lack of windows in the waist gun positions on the F. Would not be a big deal since you just wouldn’t use a couple of masks.
@keavdog thanks for sharing. One of the reasons for wanting the montex set was for the insignia masks.

Is the masking used for covering off parts that you don’t want painted while painting the model?
Yes. Montex Masks are a vinyl tape cut to fit the kit in question, whereas other companies like Eduard use a tape more akin to Tamiya’s yellow tape. These are generally pretty easy to work with, although I have come across an occasional set where it appeared the guy cutting the masks had never actually laid eyes on the actual kit.
Agreed. I typically make my own masks from Tamiya tape for most of my planes but bombers like the B-17 and the Beaufort (building for the Battle of Britain group build) I like to use a precut mask. I’m also interested in masking for the insignia just because I think that it looks cooler painted on than it does as a decal.
I’m hoping to get a cricut or a silhouette so I can mask for the insignia and the unit/squadron numbers.
@dadoffour I’ve given thought to acquiring a Silhouette for that purpose. Where do you get the template? Perhaps a scan of the kit’s decals?
