Some of you might be following my P-47d bubble top build. In it I was talking about me and my dads life long idea of building a room with a dogfight taking place on the ceiling. Well, since my p-47 is just about ready to be coated with alclad II and since it is my only project going right now (Only 1 project at a time is like a modeling sin) I was looking for some info on what kind of axis fighters would be battling a p-47 bubble top. It will be finnished in natural metal. And I was aware that many Natural metal birds had been shipped to the pacific. Not sure if it matters of the color or not. However, I am sure there are much more knowledgeable people on this forum who could tell me what sort of aircraft I should make locked in a dogfightwith my P-47d bubbletop.
Well Steve, that depends on two things. First, How accurate do you want it to be? Second, What markings are you putting on the Thud? If they are one for a pacific theater sqn, then … same for a european theater one. You could try to look up the history of a said P-47 pilot and what he shot down and model that, or just something acceptable for the theater and time. Or you could just not care and throw up anything not Allied. I think it would look great any which way you decide. [^]
By the time the NMF T-Bolt was used in the ETO their main foe was the BF-109G and FW-190A and FW-190D. Not all NMF T-Bolts were sent to the Pacific. The 56 FG flew NMF P-47’s until the end of the war.
I think the right answer would be “anything that was in front of it at the time.”
You just need to decide if it’s supposed to be Japanese or German, based on what theater the marking on your jug represent, and make sure the model of enemy plane was active in the same time period.
