The pilot of last Mig-17 Cunningham shot down, so called Col. Tomb, I concluded was a Russian or Chinese pilot. There is no proof a Col. Tomb existed in the NVAF. The NVAF deny to this day there was ever anyone named Col. Tomb serving in thier Air Force. I suspect it was a nickname given to NVAF pilots who achieved high kill ratio over American aircraft.
Just a heads up. There’s a new hour long weekly history channel series starting this friday night called Dogfights. I’m not sure if it’s connected with the 2 hour Dogfight: greatest air battles.
First episode is: Mig Alley - Air force fighter-pilots risk their lives flying f-86 sabres during the korean war.
Thats EASY!!! Cunningham would chop back his warp engine, go to impulse speed forcing Von Rictoffen’s Ghost to over shoot and fly by him and set him up for a Quantum Torpedo shot. HE HE HE HE HE HE
The History Channel makes these sorts of mistakes all the time.
That is why I struggle to enjoy their shows. I’ll be watching
something interesting, and then they’ll say something that I
know is incorrect, and I begin to doubt everything that I might
have “learned” from watching.
Not to hijack the thread, but I notice innacurate or wrong info on History and The Military Channel fairly frequently. My wife always writes down what I point out, the idea being to send them a letter letting them know. Makes you wonder who does the research and editing of those documentaries. Come to think of it, I’d love to be an editor for that kind of stuff! Now that I think of it, I can use that to help me get a job researching, reviewing and editing for them. LOL
Nothing kills me more than when they’re talking about say, an FW190F-8 doing ground attack, yet the footage they’re showing is of an F4U Corsair dropping bombs on some Island in the Pacific. LOL
he new series DOG FIGHTS recreates famous battles using state-of-the-art computer graphics. With up to 25 percent of the program consisting of animation, viewers will feel like they’re in the battle, facing the enemy. First-hand accounts will drive the story. Rare archival footage and original shooting supplement the remarkable computer graphics.
That series looks cool, but there isn’t a single episode about the Europe Western Front (WWI or WWII). Funny that the webpage shows a P-51B and some 109’s. Maybe future episodes.
Yeah! That is exactly what I’m talking about too. The Pearl Harbor documentary that they are running right now shows TBD’s making torpedo runs!
