historic australia dioramas and gelatine

Hi to all on this forum.

I am making a series of dioramas showing life in early Australia (Richmond, Tasmania) and starting up an interpretation centre in the town.
For those interested have a look at http://www.whitepage.com.au/richmondtasmania

Also any ideas on the use of gelatine for water features?
It seems great after a bit of experimentation but I’m not sure how long it will last, what will happen on a hot day or whether it might go mouldy.
Anyone ever used it before?
It sets really clear with a rubbery texture and seems ideal. But…?

Thanks all

Alan

I wouldn’t use gelatin or any other food item. Over time, it will break down or mold and will be eaten by bugs. For water, I use fiberglass resin. It can be found at discount stores and auto repair shops. It has to be poured in thin layers (1/8" max) though, or it could crack. It can be tinted with enamel paints to give it some color too.

Good luck.

Yep, you can get casting/embedding resin (in Australia) from your local Bunnings Warehouse.

This is what you want to look for. http://www.diggersaust.com.au/search/proddetail.asp?pid=89
