Hisso aircraft engine

I have finished my Hispano Suiza 8A engine, the engine for the Spad and SE-5. It is scratchbuilt except for the prop, which is modified from a storebought prop- changed tip shape and stained it mahogany. It is 1:6 scale.

I can’t believe that’s scratch built. Wow, that’s amazing, what a great job!

Very interesting. More people out there ought to try things just like that. =] I think you start small and do just like you did and before you know it…you’re building an actual plane (that you can’t afford to keep! LOL)

Very nice. =]

Beautiful build Don. [t$t]

It’s a beaut, I can almost hear the thing run and smell the Castrol 50 weight. Very well done, thanks for the post and photos.

Well done! Nice display too!

That is a nice model. I admire people who have the skills it takes to scratch build. gk

X2 knox…Well done Don!!!

WOW !! Very nice work. Awesome.

Oh wow, that is beautiful work, Don! I love scratchbuilt projects.

Beautiful work, Don.

Actually, I had a 1:1 scale Vari-eze about 1/3 of the way complete. Then my wife found out what the engine would cost, and I had to sell the project :frowning:

Ugh. That’s too bad.

I’m working on obtaining my pilot’s license, but it’ll be a little while till I can afford finishing it. So for now, a soldering iron is about as close as I’ll get to “working” on an engine.

Nicly done Don! Great work. [Y]

Superb, Don!

I looked at some of your other photos, really like the BT, real or model? I did notice you credited the XFM-1 to Curtiss, but maybe Bell instead?

Whoops, you’re right- Bell!

The BT-13 pic I think you are talking about is the real thing. I am using picture for reference to a model in progress, but I thought the pic was a nice shot so I prettied it up a bit in a photo editing program, eliminating a messy background.

Don, too bad about the Vari-Eze project, it would have been a dandy airplane. Loved the looks.

Very nice build Don, impressed much I am

Outstanding build, Don! You oughta scratch-build an 8-71 blower to go on top of it…[proplr]
