His And Her Round 2!! Pics!!

I bring your attention to the 2nd round of the his and her head to head event.

In the right corner weighing in at 21,200 lbs at a height of 8’ 10" wearing the olive drab color from the U.S.A. is Tamiya’s 1/35 M3A2 Halftrack assembled on Lizradqueen’s side of the table.

In the left corner wieghing in at 17,218 lbs and a height of 5’ 8.75" bearing the mark of the the axis powers is Tamiya’s 1/35 SDKFZ 251/1 having been assembled on Lizardqing’s side of the table.

Of coarse they both already had their first bout with a two year old , needless to say he won and they got some extra glue out of it. [B)]

Personally I can admit defeat in this myself. The M3A2 kit seems to be alot better in not only details but accessories also and to me just looks better as whole when put side to side. Now I just have to get another kit of one and build it myself seeing how thats what I thought I was going to be doing with this one.

And a bonus shot of hers…

Now just got to get an idea for round three. Enjoy!

there both looking good
nice paint jobs and weathering
so whats next Tank Vs Tank or im sorry to say Aircraft P38 Vs Anti aicraft gun

I had not thought about doing an AA gun with her P-38. Any suggestions for a good one?

Excellent work … both of you.
It’s great to see you both enjoy this hobby so much.

Also an excellent idea to produce 2 halftracks in the same build, it’s kind of neat to see them compared.

Excellent use of drybrushing and and weathering to produce dirty but not overly abused vehicles.

Couple of quick comments.

Lady’s first - A little more pastel chalk around the lower half of the vehicle and the tires will really set this one off. Think about your own car and how dirty it gets on the lower half after even a simple rain or a drive on a gravel road. The second minor point is on the .50 cal, if you have a pin vice, it is a good idea to drill a small holw in the end of the gun barrels. Quick and easy but sure improves the look.

Gentleman’s last - I’m not sure if it’s the light, or the flash from the camera or not. But there is a silvering to your decals on the side. Did you apply them over a gloss coat and then apply a dull cote to return it to a matt finish or just apply the decals straight onto the matt paint? If it’s just the lighting, ignore me, but if they are silvered you may want to try this technique to prevent that in the future.

All in all another set of fine projects from you two. A nice dio showing the M3A2 rolling past the abandoned 251 would look real cool.

What’s next you guys … I look forward to them.

Both have done excellent jobs!

Now, I need to go get my wife and show her that she could actually build one with me [;)]

Thankyou for the replies, i did go back and add some more pastel it looks alot better now
chris did the decals for me, maybe one day i will do them on my own.

Excellent work, I always loved that type of german halftrack, but seeing it next to the US one, I cant say which is better. Looking forward to round 3.

The decals on yours look fine Sheila … it’s his that have the shine.

You both did outstanding on the builds. I’d have to call this one a draw.
For round 3, how about Famo vs Dragon Wagon? Should be interesting… if not a bit expensive.

demono69

very nice, how did you like at 251/1? i just put my last coat of clear-flat this afternoon on mine. i kinda feel the same way as you about the lack of details and accessories especialy inside, it just seems so empty.

just one little detail i dont know if its the camera angle but personaly i think i would have removed the light on the right fender it looks a little out of place , if the right front fender had received that much damage i would think that the light would have just snaped off.

overall both are very nice , much better weathering than i have done

Awesome job BOTH of you! I’d have to call this one a tie also! Sheila You’re doing great for just starting out!! We’ll count that to Chris’s excelent tutoring unless you tell us otherwise!! [:P] [:D]

Eric

Really good work, both of you. Lizardqueen’s halftrack is really sharp. Great work folks.

Robert- The decals had problems all around on the 251/1. They kept tearing left and right and would’nt stick good at all. I pretty much gave up on them. Some of it could be lighting, I took the pics in full sunlight. I had not done that before ,overall they turned out better than normal but I guess it brought out the decals alot though.

Demono- It would be very nice to do those, but that cost factor is just a little prohibiting right now. Allthough i wish I could have picked up just the recovery portion of the wagon when hobby lobby had that 50% off. But I decided that 8 kits would be better than one at the time.

Panther- I was really dissapointed with it. Compared to the other Tamiya kits I’ve done this one lacked alot. I was just glad I only gave $5 for it. I think the Leopard 2A5 I started today is going to more than make up for it though, it looks like it’s going to be great.

Thanks for all the compliments. I’m open to suggestions on what to do for round 3.

Excellent job!!! I think i’m going to do a half track for my second armor project!!! Not that i’m getting ahead of myself or anything…

GREATjob!!

Wow both look fantastic…Great job Chris and Sheila!!! Looking foward to round 3…I like the AA gun and the P38 idea
Chris

Very nice models, keep them coming.

we are so pleased on the comments that everyone gave us. now what to do now that i don’t have any models to do i guess i’ll wait till next weekend and go out to get more untill then thankyou all very much for the replies. :o)

Fine looking build and you guys work fast too.
cosidering I’ve been working on the same one for about 6 month

Great job guys.

Little fun fact: More modelers are killed or injured responding to domestic build-offs than any other response call. Build responsibly.[;)]

I think half the fun of modeling is taking that kit that you thought was so-so or disapointing and turning it around. Think of it, what you thought was a kit lacking in detail has become an open canvas for you to develop and experiment with your opportunity to detail it on your own, develop building techniques like adding accessories such as spare equipment, weathering, making stowed tarps, bed rolls etc. A little battle damage. Scratch building added equipment or options of vehicle variants. All things that in the long run help with your developing skill level. Some of the best pieces I’ve seen were from relatively disapointing kits but the details that were added and or developed made all the difference in the world.

It’s good that you guys are building together, and in all seriousness, don’t make it a competition between each other. It too easily devolves into something not so fun. Though the best intentions are always forward, humans are human and competiton can breed resentment. This is a wonderful opportunity for both of you to share in a hobby and to be able to share a creative experience makes it even more special. Continue to have fun with it.[:P]

Mike

Mike- it’s not a competetive thing at all, we do things to each others build still and just do it cause we enjoy it. It’s just cool to see the same basic piece of equipment from opposing forces sitting next to each other. I agree totally about taking a substandard kit and making into something alot better as that is what I tried to with the german piece. I still have a few little things here and there to put on it and may get around to doing so if I get bored with the leopard I started yesterday.
