Hey, I figured out how I’m going to hinge the trunk on my 57 BelAir…If you’ve ever been sick, had a baby or a Valentine, you’ve gotten one of those mini ballons on a plastic stick. My plan is to use the tubeuler sticky thing and little plastic tabs to create a hinge! Let me know what you think![:-^]
WOW! That just might be the trick, let us know how it turns out!
Hmmmmm… Neato! Have to look into that.
Just get some Evergreen brand styrene rods and tubing. It comes in all sizes, and telescopes nicely. Should be perfect for building working hinges. It’s inexpensive and you can find it in almost any hobby shop.
Fine Scale Modeler once printed an article about making working hinges for car trunks and doors using brass tubing and thin brass rod. I don’t have the exact issue date with me now but I think it was about 1993. If I was at home, I’d check the issue date now as it’s in the Jeep Cherokee kit box. I opened two doors and the liftgate on the Cherokee and made hinges per this article. They aren’t ultra-accurate but they’re durable and they work. Once you get your trunk lid hinged, you can add a spare tire, tire iron, toolbox and even junk to the trunk!
