Hill AFB Show

Is there anybody going to the Hill AFB Show on June 12-13?

I am looking for somebody able to take some photos at that show as I am not going to be able to go there.

I will pay for the work.

If interested please contact me by e-mail. The e-mail is william.beasley@night-flight-models.net

Thanks in advance.

Bill,
I will be there on Sunday. Check your email for one from me.

I’ll also be there on Sunday with another of our local hobbyists. I doubt very much that my scrawny 2.5MP digital will get the quality of shots you’re probably looking for though. You can email me below as well if needed though. Phil is probably you man!

Brian~

Brian,
Mine is only a 1.3 MP but I will be shooting the chopper pics on High Resolution so hopefully will work out.
Still not sure if anyone in my family is going or not. Do you want to meet up there someplace (flying starts at noon but think the gate opens at 10, know anyone that can get us in earlier)?

Sorry I missed ya Phil. Jeremy and I went up (with my daughter as well) and had a great time. Spent WAAAAAY too much on food though. I guess you have to expect that at these kinda things. I hate to admit it, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the T-birds display. Very pretty…but just not overly inspiring as I hoped it would be. sigh I wonder when they’ll get the Blue Angels or someone like that out here.

Brian,
Jeff and I got up there about 10:30. Was a little bummed about the static stuff as none of the things I wanted to see were there. No Pave Low, no F-117, no AC-47, no Abrahms or Bradley. I did like the fact that the flying was pretty regular after noon. That F-16 put on a nice show. Love to watch it go from that slow angle approach and then accelerate up at the same angle, just cool. My favorite though was watching a real Zero fly. Never seen one of them in the flesh. The Hollywood Zero (Tora, Tora, Tora Texan) looks really good but just not the same thing. Wish they had parked it where I could have gotten some close up pics. Also, seeing the Wright flyer that the U did actually fly was real impressive too. We actually left after the A-10 did its pyro pass. Thought that would be longer. Jeff wanted to catch the end of the Nascar race and I was pretty board with nothing left to take pics of so… Ran into a buddy of mine from work who took his family. Said they really liked the T-birds. I have seen them so many times I didn’t think I was missing much by leaving early. Still haven’t seen the Angels fly their Hornets in person. Seen them in the A-4s and F-4s before that.
We will have the pics posted on the site sometime [:)] . Jeff is trying to create his own Gallery so we can get it to do what we want and said he won’t put the pics up until that is done. Did get the May meeting pics up though.
See ya,

I went on Sunday with the hopes of avoiding the large crowds that would undoubtedly be out on Saturday. I wasnt disappointed! We got there at 11am. Parking was a breeze and with my DOD ID card we even got to bypass the metal detector and the bag search!!! A friend had gotten VIP passes to the T-Bird area so we got to sit at a nice table with cushy chairs. They had a few young airman walking around handing out free bottled water as well (it was $3 a bottle at the vendors). The view was really good with little to no folks in front of us. The demo flights by most were outstanding. I didnt stick around for the T-Birds (I havent for years). The thought of the crowds trying to leave at the same time made the choice to leave early a no brainer as I was a F-16 Crew Dawg for many years and had a few flights in the F-16. Not that the T-Birds are boring but they arent very exciting for me anymore.

Yeah, Jeremy and I were pretty bummed at the lack of static stuff too. I also agree about that low and slow F-16 pass then kicking in the burner and rocketing off with sheer power - DAMN! The highlight of the day was when my little girl demanded that we all go out for ice cream afterwards. None of us were complaining.

The T-birds were great as ever…but the same as ever. No new manuvers or formations that I caught. Pretty much standard fare. Still, it’s pretty cool to me to see a flight of six highly polished planes turning a perfect barrel roll in formation.

I had expected more from the pyro too, and while the explosions were cool to hear there wasn’t much to see from where we were standing. I think the most impressive sound had to have come from that jet truck. That guy is absolutely INSANE! I went over and peeked around his rig a bit after his first run. I swear he’s well on his way to becoming a Darwin award candidate! LOL

Anyway, again, sorry to have missed you. Hoping to make the June meeting, but it’s questionable as I’m moving too. July for sure I hope!

Bri~

Ya know, we went and hung out by the car in the parking lot to watch the T-birds, and when they came in to land we hopped in, and made for the gate. There were quite a few others too that seemingly had the same idea, but all in all, at the last two airshows I’ve seen at Hill, it’s taken less than 10 minutes to get off base and on the highway. They do a great job directing traffic in and out. Even the metal detector thing was a breeze.

If only the T-birds could have ramped up their display a bit. sigh Is it pretty much the same display they’ve been flying for years and years now? I wonder why they don’t try anything new.
