I always enjoy HPC. Even though I live in COS, it’s worth the drive up North. I hope they take a look at updating their category list, especially Figures and Sci-Fi.

I’d like to see some new categories too, but the popular vote at our recent meeting was to leave it as is for now. I suggest that if you do attend (we’d love to have you) make your thoughts known about what categories and/or improvements you would like to see. We typically do have a poll on our Facebook group after the show where we ask for suggestions for improvement.

Jared,
That’s unfortunate. I see missed opportunities in not updating their category list.

Current categories:

  • Automotive - 6 Auto, 1 Motorcycle, 1 Junior
  • Dioramas - 1 Military, 1 Non-Military, 1 Junior
  • Misc - 1 Misc, 1 Fantasy, 1 Junior
  • Military Vehicles - 4 Tanks, 2 Soft Skin, 2 Half Track, 1 Artillery, 1 Junior
  • Spacecraft - 1 Sci-Fi, 1 Real Space, 1 Junior
  • Ships - 3 Ships, 1 Junior
  • Figures - 1 Figure, 1 Junior

Jared,
Another question: Why did they get rid of the online registration forms? I see on the website that all “Entry forms must be filled out in person”. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

AFAIK, they have had just offline entry forms for the last couple of years. I think this was to take care of an issue where a couple of the models’ registration forms got lost or misplaced, so the club created a multi part form (like the old style multipart carbon copy forms) so we could make sure that the information didn’t get lost. In the three years I’ve been a member the registrations were all in person at the show.

I’m not on the executive officer board so these decisions are all above my paygrade. I’m just sharing the information, and I write some of the articles on the website (i actually built the website).

Thanks Jared. I loved the online forms they used to have that you could fill out ahead of time and print.

Thanks again to all of those who attended HPC XXXIV last weekend! Pretty good turnout considering the weather was gorgeous and many folks were up in the mountains leaf peeping. Definitely better than last year’s weather!

A huge shoutout to High Plains Modelers for hosting and running the show; not a trivial thing to pull off!

Already looking forward to next year!

The show results have (finally) been loaded to our website, High Plains Con XXXIV: The Fabulous Fifties – High Plains Modelers there you can find winners lists and some pictures. There are also links to even more pictures in the article taken by one of our club members.
