This is probably my last diorama (or build) for the year. You have seen parts of these in the past 5 months or so and it is only this weekend that I managed to put them together. While I must admit that I am disappointed because it didn’t turn out exactly the way I planned it, I am a bit relieved that I have finished it (so to speak) and I can move on. [:I]
I have grossly underestimated the required size of the base that’s why it is very tightly packed. It really limited my options in the placement of the gun and the figures. I have to refrain from adding some more items to avoid making it too cluttered. I may need to add more snow on the gun, too.
Anyway…here it is…supposedly a diorama of a Russian recon team accidentally stumbling upon a newly set flak 36 emplacement. The Russians have been losing a lot of armor from these higly mobile guns that finding them is a must.
As always your comments are very much welcome and will be appreciated.
Man i like this dio a lot pretty good and dont worry about the base size it doesnt look too compact at all. Those rusians look very hesitant on what to do, which is what all of us would too. If I were you i wouldnt put any more snow on the Cannon, because if it was my Cannon in World war 2 i would keep it pretty clean.
[#ditto] No more snow is required. And it is not packed at all. I’m pretty sure they wanted to hide form the enemy like this and that often meaned that they were taking less space as possible. I think you did an excellent job Dwight.
One comment tough … I know it is hard to take pictures of a snowy environment but the pictures are maybe a little bit to bright.
I think it’s fantastic, Dwight. I really love the scene. Great figure painting, tho I’d personally like to see a little more dirt on the dudes for having moved that thing. Great detail and excellent work overall. SteveM
Well done! I like that it is filled to the brim and nothing is square to the edges. It looks very nice and the lack of snow on the gun is not that out of place. It is a mobile gun and the snow could fall off, but it seems that there would be sludge on the wheel pieces. I have not dared snow yet because i’m just not that good yet. [:)]
Outstanding work as always. I vote for the “no more snow” on the gun itself since you are showing it in action with the crew and there wouldn’t be any accumulation except maybe a little on the cruciform legs from the “dust up” of firing. I would however suggest that you either add snow to the bogie trucks or mark the snow showing their passing once the gun had been unhitched and deployed. Since the accumulated snow is fairly heavy, I’d assume that either the bogies were snowed on or were pushed through the snow to their present position after it had fallen. I don’t think the scene is overcrowded at all as is.
Man, those German gunners a screwed! Not a one of them has a weapon in his hands - those Ruskies can hose the whole crew down, take out the gun [C):-)]. Might be eligible for an Order of the Soviet Union award (or whatever it is called…)
Really nice work, Dwight. I agree with the votes for no snow on the gun, but some snow on the bogies. Hope you post some more pics of your dio when (if) you decide to change anything. I’d love to see more…
Wow, fantastic work Dwight. I have to say that IMO this is your best dio work to date.
I have one suggestion, I would dirty up the snow a little bit, and pack it down in the immediate area around the gun base, to show the weight of the gun, and the movement and actions it would have taken to deploy the piece of equipment.
Love it, I’m actually working a Flak 36 dio at the moment, only on the opposite front. Gives me some inspiration. One question, well more like two, was the gun just brought there? and has it fired at all? if it has fired, then i think some empty brass shells could help add just a little more to it. Other than that great model!
