Paul’s the name and I’m here in sunny Dublin (all to seldom sunny actually…!)

Had been modelling for years, mostly aircraft, but since 16 or 17 I hadn’t really been involved… not until recently when someone I work with who shares my passion for aircraft bought me a 1/48 Messerschmitt bf109f as a kris krindle gift… Having made that I seem to have been once again bitten by the bug and subsequently am in the throws of working on a beautiful 1/72 Supermarine Stranraer by Revell, which I understand is a rerelease of the classic Matchbox kit.

So just saying hi…!

Welcome Paul! Once bitten, it is all over with! Glad to have you aboard. Bunch of awesome people here that are more than willing to give advice and share the tricks of the trade. The key thing to remember is to post pics!!! We love seeing the builds as they progress. So jump on in and have fun! Again, welcome!

Right, here goes… my first build in approx 34 years…! I think I even used my old brushes. :slight_smile: Really should invest in new materials eh.

Nothing wrong with that at all! Great stuff. I think you are well on your way back into the hobby! I like the BW pic. Very cool! Great start, can’t wait to see the next build!

Oh… and on the Stranraer I’ve discovered that the electric motors supplied for the Airfix 1/24 scale series can be fitted into the engine cowlings…

Will supply pics of how I managed to fit the motors into the Stranraer Cowlings as I progress…!

I believe there’s a help group for that. Though judging by some of the guys on here, it doesn’t work very well.

Welcome aboard Paul. I just love me some 109’s (and other Luftwaffe stuff!). Good to see another fellow Luftwaffe model builder.

Aye… but the P51 still gets my vote for sweetest aircraft ever built… from any era… EVER. :slight_smile:

I have to agree with you about the Mustang…as far as the American aircraft go. For me the Luftwaffe birds werent inferior, just flown by poorly trained pilots. By the end of the war there just weren’t enough good pilots left to fly such great machines. The 109’s and the 190’s to me are comparable to Americas P-51/ P-47 line-up. Will give you a good thumbs up on the Mustang though.

Irrespective of performance, capabilities etc I just think the P51 is the most beautiful plane even built…! I made lots of kits up until I was around 16 or 17, then moved on to some balsa kits (gliders and rubber powered) but never progressed to remote control. I turned 50 last June and my siblings, wh just happen to know my passion for the P51 cleverly bought me one of these…
