I just wanted to say Hi to everyone here new and old and share what I do.
I’m 47 years old this year and have built kits since I was young. Most of my building involves cars and bikes but I also have a few civilian and navy aircrafts stashed about.
I have really enjoyed this hobby and is my mainstay away from my R/C boats and planes. There is always a plastic kit out close to my chair with files and blades waiting. In fact, of my model collection of unbuilt models, most are all cleaned up and ready to paint and assemble.
I had a large collection at one time consisting close to 75 boxed kits, but now as time progressed, common sense has started to take over and only have my most cherished ones left that I might be able to finish before the finish gets here.
One thing this hobby has taught me is even though I might be sitting and building a race car, it’s not suppose to be a race. It is relaxation and a place where time is forgot. A place to express myself at my own pace and let my own creativity take over. A place where my skills can be kept.
I was once involved in a local model builder’s club where we held weekly meetings, shared our work, ideas, even going as far as holding group demonstrations. Being a mixed crowd of builders, some armor, some aircraft, some cars…we all had a bit in common when it came to building techniques that we could share with each other. I enjoyed that.
I am solo once again and have a 1/43 scale white metal kit on my desk that I’ve been tweaking. A model contest bargan that I had to have to match my large 1/12 scale version. It should be nice.
Anyways, it’s great to be here and look for me to be around. I also like camera work so expect to see some of my models put up here and there. I don’t have many to share that are completed (an unfortunate incident took the remainder) but what I do have to show I’m hoping you’ll like.
It feels good to be back with the kits again after a short while away with my boats which I had started and focused solid on for the last few years but I am stalled out on that endevour temporarily until further work can be done concerning my shop situation, so the kits are out again until that happens. That is one thing that is good with our kits too is they never go stale in the box…'cept the decals. [:P]
I have a decent setup with a home-made spray booth complete with a 1/3hp 1750rpm squirrel cage exhaust blower from a clothes dryer. Works completely awesome and sits on top of a retired roll-around microwave stand that houses it all.
My 20lb. CO2 bottle I have discovered is now out of certification and needs a filling for my Badger 150 which I really like. I’ve been able to pull off some very nicely even gloss coats with it.
The project I have out is close to getting primered up for a solid black gloss coat of decanted Duplicolor laquer. It’s a 1/43 scale Lotus-Ford and first time shooting color laquer like this. If it doesn’t work out…it’s easy stripping for the old standard of Model Master.
