I recently started visiting this forum and have responded to several post, so I figured that I’d better introduce myself. My name is Don Pugh, I’m retired Air Force and currently working as a 911 dispatcher/Jailer for the City of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Paraclete1 is the name I picked up from my short term as president of a local chapter of the Starfleet International. The USS Paraclete was our ships name and as the CO, I was Paraclete1. Paraclete is a Greek work meaning one called to help or serve. Our Chapter was into community service. The chapter has since disbanded, but I’ve managed to find another way to serve the community.
My interest varies and I’d be hard pressed to pick one, but I’m into Sci-Fi, figure modeling, Aircraft modeling, and dioramas. Lately, I’ve begun to toy with the idea of dioramas that reflect moments of my life as a way of remembering the past. As each day passes, memories seem to fade a little more. I’ve had a great run and have seen and done more things than most people, so I can’t complain about it. And I’m looking forward to seeing and doing a lot more.
Of all my past interest and dealing with people, I’ve found that modelers are the best bunch of people to be around. In the last few years of visiting modeling forums, I don’t think I’m seen any flame wars. People freely share ideas and praise for others. That seems to be something that getting harder and harder to find these days. I look forward to being a part of your group and I hope an active one. I would have to agree with you on this point. Many a person from here has helped me in the short time I have been here. I find that there are no real secrets in the modeling community as there are in others…all of us our eager to lend a hand when we can…
Welcome to the forum, Paraclete. I agree with you about the help & support of this forum. On other boards, I see far too much evaluation of other people’s work as “fault finding.” The terms “wrong,” “should,” & “shouldn’t” really irritate me. Rather than saying what’s GOOD about a particular kit or build, they seem to want to show off their knowledge by finding fault. I see very little of that here.

You have indeed found one of those sharing and may I add caring sites. The guys and gals around here are most helpful, most friendly, and sometimes more than a little bit loonie !!! Combine all this together and you have joined quite the family of modellers.
Firstly, welcome, Don! it nice to see people us young 'uns ([:p]) can learn from! I really have to agree with you on how the people are in this forum… this is the only online community i know that does not look down upon you because you’re a “newbie” (heck, i’m still a newbie myself). These guys and girls are the most helpful of people (albeit a little goofy). they keep saying that the sillyest question is the one you don’t ask, so ask away! [:D]
