Well, it’s a little late for Mike Wittmann to be viva-ing. Odd to think that if he had not met his end in 1944, He might still be alive today – he’d be 90 though. He was 30 when he took a little ride in a flying turret.
A lot of those guys are still kicking, Otto Carius is owns a pharmacy named ‘The Tiger’s Chemist’! Got to love that.
Have you read his book? Is it any good at all? German tank commanders may, or may not, write good books.
It’s pretty good, really puts things in perspective of time and gives you a feel for living in a tank in Russia.
The language is a little stilted, I imagine from the translation.
Hans Von Luck and Johann Voss both have written excellent books, especially Voss, but neither fought in Tigers.

How about a new ride at Great Adventure…‘Firefly Victim!’ or ‘Typhoon Attack!’, you get strapped into the commander’s seat of a Tiger mockup, move a few yards and then the turret rips off sideways and you roll down a hill. They’d get my twenty bucks.[;)]
As a matter of fact, every now and then amusement parks do treat their patrons to a little surprise “Michael Wittmann experience.”

This may sound dumb, but can I open the box before Sunday, or is the whole idea to have a standing start on the day? I have never bought a kit without opening the box and poking around, even if I’m not going to build it for ages.
You can open the box, but not the plastic backs with the sprues in. Its the only way to show that you haven’t started yet. The idea is to show a picture of the unstarted kit together with something that shows the date ( weatherchanel or whatever ) before you start building.
The rules have been loosened so you can open the box and peruse the directions and sprues, but keep 'em sealed if possible. Post a pic of the kit in front/on top of the day’s local newspaper/weather channel and be off.

Hmmmm… i wonder if i can still join in on this one, Ausf… I’m going to be away on holiday up in the mountains of Luzon (Baguio) and away from my compressor… So is it okay that i sprayed everything in gray before i leave tonight (I’ll be out of touch until monday morning)? I’m taking my kit and tools with me and I’ll build it anyway, but I’ll just take 2 hours off my build time.
On the other hand, if this isn’t in the spirit of the build, i don’t mind not being allowed to participate. Participant or spectator, I can’t wait to see all the mad tigers!! [:D]
You may be building the maddest Tiger of all considering the circumstances. I think a Mountain Division exception can be made here and a prepaint will be allowed.[;)]

i was going to open my kits & wash the pieces tonight,
but i guess i can wait.
An old schoolmate just hit town tonight and wants to catch up tomorrow night, so MTD may start around midday here in OZ and be more like Surly Tiger Day.
Allright, then. I’ve get me a nice little kitty, and I’m in. I’ll worry about explaining to my wife why I’m not laying the patio stones like I promised later.
Got my Revell Tiger the other day and man this kit is nothing like I Imagined I mean it has indy tracks (I hate Indy tracks!). And it has a lot better detail than I thought it would too. But what a challenge its going to be. I’m going to model it in grey for simplicity and speed hope thats alright. Figure I’ll buy a spray can so I can take it to work. I actually have an adapter to run my airbrush off one of the welding bottles at work but I dont want to drag all that stuff to work so its the can for this one.
