Hetzer Question

Hello Folks

I’ve been working on a Tamiya Mid Production Hetzer while I wait on paint and other things to dry on my StuG. Looking at pictures on the net and anywhere else I could find, it seems to me this kit is not a mid but more of a early production.

My question is since there is no ax,shove or hammer in the kit should I add these or just leave them off this build?

Thanks for the info

On early-mid versions of the Hetzer, the shovel and sledge hammer were stowed inside the engine compartment. On later vehicles, a change in air filter style necessitated moving the shovel and sledge hammer outside to the right side of the hull. (Modelling the Jagdpanzer 38(t) ‘Hetzer’, page 32).

No mention of an axe though…Hum? [%-)]

Thanks you sir so you’re saying it’s there I just can’t see it because it’s out of sight.[:D]

Thanks again

Despite the above statement from Osprey’s book, there appears to be a fair amount of variation in tool storage. This review of Eduard’s early model Hetzer has the axe on the left mudguard and the sledge hammer on the right rear. Photos of restored vehicles show all sorts of tool placements, probably without much regard to their original locations…

I haven’t looked over all the photos I have to confirm all the different placements. Factory variations and/or field modifications could certainly exist. If it is in stock, I’ll probably pick up Spielberger’s Light Jagdpanzer book tomorrow. It has all the minutia on the Hetzer anyone would want to know.

Well Kykeon that leaves the door wide open for a artistic imagination if you’ve got one.[:D]Since I just started building tanks and the Hetzer is my third,I think I can find an empty spot on it that a crewman would think was handy.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out here. Be good to yourself but don’t spend it all in one place.
