here's a toughy... Identify this!!

I just bought a shell from an antique store yesterday.

Description:
It has no markings on it. (at all!)
The top of the shell has a diameter of 20mm.
The bottom extends to about 29mm.
The Shell is 103mm tall.
It’s brass (ok…)
The primer is still in it, and it stick out from the bottom of the shell about half a mm.
The rim around the bottom where the mechanism ejects it is 2mm deep and 4mm tall. After that, it angles back out to form the oustide of the casing.
At the top of the shell, it begins to bulge out 1cm from the top.

Once again, there are no markings on it. So I have no Idea of any dates or if it’s anything from a Flak cannon shell or something as weird as an elephant gun!![;)][;)]

Any chance you could post a picture? It would be a big help.

I can’t take a photo right now… The camera is out of batteries.[sigh] I hope the description helps. If you have any questions… Ask!

Is this what it looks like?

what is that?

20mm [:D]

[:D] 20 mm tracer round ??

That looks like the right casing!! I am not sure if the tops of it looks the same after it is fired though… mine is empty. The outside rim on the top (on mine) doesn’t have the rings visible on the outside. Maybe they disappear after being fired.

Any other possible info on the shell you have there?

P.S. Thanks for the photo!

If the pic’s name “m50-20mm” is anything to go by, I’d hazard a guess that it’s 20x102mm, as used in the Vulcan gatling.
