Help with supplies

Im fairly new to the modeling world and Before i build a kit, I just wanted to know, what supplies do you guys always have? What should I have?

There are numerous “supplies” and “tools” needed for building a good model, so I’ll break them down into sections.

Construction:

  • Scissors with a long, thin head.
  • File (for sanding).
  • Tweezers (for small parts).
  • Xacto[:D] knife.
  • Glue (I use liquid cement, which company depends on your preference)
  • Masking tape (for masking)
  • Liquid mask (for canopies)
  • Putty (as a filler)
  • Toothpick (glue applicator)

Painting:

  • Acrylic or Enamel
  • Thinner
  • Brush set consisting of wide flat brush and various thin fine brushes
    OR
  • Airbrush[:D] + compressor!
  • surface primer (for better paint adhesion)
  • Future floor polish (for decals)
  • Some ppl like to finish off their models with semi-gloss finish.

Remember this is just a general list, it is by no means a complete list of all “supplies” and “tools” one needs to building models. Hope this helps!

Thanks!

When you get deeper into modeling you’ll find and add tools and supplies continually. Somethings I’d add to the previous list are

Needle files
pin vise with assortment of drill bits
cyanoacrylate glue (supe glue)
Small wire cutters (works well for cutting parts from the sprue)
tweezers in different sizes and shapes
razor blades.

This is a pic of my work bench, and I’m always looking for better or more specific tools for specific jobs.

here are some other things you need (must have items) Super glue debonder (to get parts off yourself when you used superglue) Band aids( for when you cut yourself with the Xacto knife and the razor blades) Super Glue ( for gluing reisin and metal parts to a model) ( also handy in a first aid kit if you dont have the band aids meantioned above)
magnifying goggles (so you can see the tiny detail on parts) paint brush, liquid model cement, drop cloth ( so you don’t make a mess on your work bench or carpet) tape sand paper and sanding sticks a scriber and seam scraper.

don’t use the tube glue crap, cause it’s weaker, thicker, and dries slower than liquid glue. but if you really want to get some practice in, you can use the 1 dollar tube glue.
the other supplies are a hobby knife, different assortments of blades, good masking tape, and sanding equipment.
those are only some essential stuff. you’ll get more as you progress

my 1000th post!

I disagree.
Always be stocked with liquid cement which you will use 95% of the time, but also carry a tube of regular gel cement. There are times where you will need it.
A tube only costs 2.00$ so you cant go wrong with keeping one on hand.
