Help with spraying Gunze

I’m trying out the Gunze-Sangyo acqueous paints for the first time because my LHS was out of the MM color I needed. (And Polly Scale doesn’t make it :()

Anyhow, what do you use to thin this stuff and how much? I tried Tamiya thinner and wasn’t thrilled with the results and last night tried water which seemed worse, atlhough I may have made it TOO thin. I am still seeing some bleed through of the plastic after a couple coats, so I know I’m doing SOMETHING wrong. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

when i thin it if i thin at all, use distilled water and a little soap. but alot of times i spray straight from the bottle. hope this helps some

I use 1 water 1 paint 1 tamiya thinner (isopropyl alcohol) and have never had any problems (in over 20 years)
Remember, you must spray over a base coat , I use a citadel miniatures skull white spray can.

Base coat?? Huh. Well, I guess my problem lies in the fact that I was spraying directly on plastic. I guess I have a base now though, so I can spray again and hopefully have better luck. Maybe I just need to learn Japanese so I can read the instructions.

I will say this - I used Mr Surfacer for the first time on this project and WOW! Great stuff, but what do you clean the brush with? Water didn’t seem to be a good solvent here. Now I need to get some cheap brushes to use with it. Oh no! Another trip to Granddad’s!! Throw me in THAT Briar Patch!

FYI - my beloved bride asked me last night after hearing the stream of profanity from the other room why I didn’t just post a note to the board and get some advice. I noted I didn’t have that kind of time because I had already decanted the paint. She said I’d have an answer in 10 minutes. It took 40, but her logic was sound. Thanks a lot.
