I am planning on building Major Donovan Smith’s P-47 in the winter camo scheme in the picture but have not been able to find any pictures other than this one. This pic is from the Finescale book American Fighters Over Europe, page 31.

Does anyone have an actual photo of this aircraft that they could share? I’ve searched the net and my references but have had no luck. Any help or photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Steve
I found this site good but didn’t find a picture you’re asking for. According to the notation on your picture…the upper surfaces were unknown because no reference photos (I assume) are available. My guess would be that they simply white washed the upper surfaces much like the Germans did to achieve the same advantages when flying low to avoid detection from higher flying enemy fighters, not to metion blending in on the ground when parked.
Ever try to spot a low flying aircraft that is predominately white against a black and white background (winter)? I have and it isn’t easy…Zero Nine Fox has visual on the traffic!
Gerald, thanks for the reply. I agree that the upper surfaces were probably white washed as well. Thank you for the link - there’s some good info there.
