help with glossy finish

can any one help me here, Im not getting the right finish on my dash-8 and I must have put a dozen coats of tamiya Glossy white allready on the model, but it still doesn’t look like it is getting the glossy look still, my question is can future help get the glossy finish where the paint is not, even if I was told I didn’t need future on the model if it has a glossy finish, Im thinking since it doesn’t have a glossy finish yet it wouldn’t hurt, can anyone recommend any suggestions on what I can do to get the glossy finish, I would very much appreciate any help I get -thank you

You can apply Future over any fully cured coating you are likely to use on a plastic model. Fully cured, for the thick coating you seem to have applied, may be weeks for acrylics, at least a week for enamels.

But it sounds like you are airbrushing too far away and/or at too high a pressure. This causes the paint to start to dry before it reaches the surface. The other possibility is that the paint is too thin or has stood long enough that the pigment has settled somewhat. The increased amount of pigment in the applied paint will reduce the gloss.

thanks for the info, Triarius, but the paint wasn’t airbrushed on thick I airbrush it on 50/50, but you might be right about the preasure, what is correct preasure for bottle feed using A badger 200, also the finish is smooth and all but it looks like it dull instead of glossy, that why Im asking about using future

Maybe try this…

Get a coffee filter, the paper kind from a drip coffee maker. Use it to polish the paint… I’ve gotten some nice smooth finishes that way on matt paint- good enough for decaling. Get the paint smooth like glass, then if you need to put on some Future, put a light coat, and polish that.

Ronald,

What are you using for thinner?

I have found that when airbrushing Tamiya gloss acrylics, the highest gloss is achieved when using Tamiya thinner. Any other substitute thinner doesn’t seem to achieve quite the same level of gloss.
