What air pressure should I use with ab and how much does the nozzle used affect on choosing the correct pressure?
I have a small compressor without air tank so the pressure builds up in the tube. Pressure gets about 1 bar higher when I stop the flow from ab than it is when painting. Not a big problem I guess since I start painting off the model ofcourse, or is it??
psi depends on your use. Generally I use a lower psi for fine detail work (8-10 psi). If you want more general coverage or have a med. or lg. tip/needle, 10-20psi will be good. I rarely go over 20 psi for any reason. Your psi will drop as you engage the a/b. Thats normal for inexpensive compressors, like mine. Just jack up the psi a few to compensate. If you want a full 10 psi while spraying, just put 'er on 12-13 psi.
You can experiment somewhat with your air pressure to see what works best for your paint, airbrush, tip size, and painting distance.
I typically spray at 15 PSI. If I am using a large tip and spraying a wide pattern, I may go up to 20 PSI. Possibly for some real detail work I might go down to 10-12 PSI. If your airbrush is gravity feed (mine are not), you can use a little less air pressure because your air doesn’t have to pull the paint from the bottle or color cup.
The pressure drop during use is normal, so adjust you pressure while depressing you airbrush trigger.
