hey,
i’m primarily an armor modeler, and i’m looking for an easy to build, quicky, early-war Luftwaffe fighter for part of a fun diorama (long story short, a while ago i built an ex-girlfriend a spitfire model and recently got it back, in damaged condition.)
what i’m looking for is something cheap and easy to build (in a weekend) with a good shape; i also want to know if aftermarket decals would be needed.
any reccomendations?
right now i’m considering the current airfix a8 kit.
thanks,
hey LSyd[:)]
firstly, my apologies on behalf of the other 30 or so people who’ve read this post before me and not said welcome to the forums, even if if they couldn’t answer your question!![:(!] they’re not normally such a miserable bunch; quite the opposite in fact![:p]
anyway, welcome to fsm…

to matters in hand…
“easy to build”…
i’d give airfix a miss and stick with tamiya or hasegawa; you know you’re getting a premium quality product with these guys.
i’ve done various 109’s and 190’s by both producers so and there’s not much in it.
“early war”…
well, the 190 didn’t come into contact with the RAF until sep 41, and that was the a-1 version (i think), so your airfix is out.
also what marque of spit are we talking?
either way, i’d stick with the 109…
“quickly”…
this means as simple a camo scheme as possible ie no mottle. this will present problems as most 109s unless v early in war and 190’s had that mottled side camo which is oh so much fun to airbrush!![B)][:(!][:p]
again, the 109…
therefore, i’d go for tamiya’s excellent 109 e-3, as tamiya provide schemes and decals for 2 planes with no mottle, one being the august 1940 mount of adolf galland[8D]. that way no need for aftermarket decals [;)]
you may want a mask for the canopy but it’s not impossible to make your own with masking tape.
hope all this helps.
let’s know how you get on and be sure to post some pics when you’re done.
regards,
nick
ps i wonder how many people “get” your forum name…made me laugh anyway![(-D]
Try not to do Airfix…Its kinda crapy compared Tamiya or Hasagawa. Try Tamiya. Its easy to build it.
[#ditto] I’ve build Tamiyas 190-A8. Its easy to build. Perfect fit, and it looks good too.
Lets see some pics when you are finished. good luck and see you around.
Welcome to the Forum. The 1/48 Airfix 190A8 is actually a re-box of an old Arii/Otaki kit. It’s the easiest 190 to build, but inaccurate in many areas. The Tamiya 190’s and 109’s are very nice kits, although not exactly weekend builds. Hasegawa makes a very nice 1/48 109E which is about equal to Tamiya. The only other 190 in 1/48 is the DML/Dragon kit which is definitely not a weekend build.
LSyd[#welcome]. I must agree Tamiya or Hasegawa are the way to go.
Well for one [#welcome] to the forums LSyd. Now for the next thing i would have to say [#ditto] what everyone else has already said. I have built both the tamiya and the hasegawa kits and they are far superior to the airfix kits and no need for any aftermarket decals.
Thanks for the welcome everyone!
after all the suggestions I’m going with Tamiya. not sure on a camo scheme yet.
heh, not a lot of people “get” my name, or if they do, they don’t mention it.

Good choice El Cid, you won’t be disappointed with the Tamiya kit.
