I usually build aircraft kits, I don’t know anything about modelling cars, but recently I’ve received this kit… Is a Monogram 1/24 1970’s Cross Boss Mustang… or something like that… but in the instruction sheet say that the engine must be painted “blue”, but what kind of blue?.. I’ve noticed that the chromed parts (whell hubs, etc) are not so well painted, so I want to paint them again, but I can’t do it with common silver paint… I want to know what kind of paint must I use for these parts… I’ve heard about a Bare Metal Foil… what is this?.. thanks in advance…

The blue of the motor is FORD ENGINE BLUE, SOME LIKE SKYBLUE, ford engine blue is from model master
the chrome, if you use and airbrush, tri with silver chrome trim from model master to, but i know that the chrome can not be panited again, try eith the bare metal foil, it is a great thing

try with your friend to find those things before buy them buy if you by them think in buy some more model cars, the car modeling is a great world, i buld aircraft to, buy some times put me into the dark side of the model cars,
the paint of the car is another thing, in wet coats and polished with polishing wax for real cars, just wax not paste ok

another thing, the chrome parts , to cut them , first heat a little your exacto blade or any blade and cut near the piece, do not use a cutter , because it will ruin the part
Search around the web for tutorials on how to apply the foil to window trim. It’s not hard but takes practice. I use the foil wrappers from chewing gum because when you peel it away from the paper backing, it has the perfect amount of adhesive to stick, but is still thin enough to conform to compound curves. The key is patience and a very sharp blade.

There are several variations of “Ford Engine Blue”. Testors Model Masters colors has two of them. The two MM colors are two shades of blue, one being darker than the other. the darker shade is Ford “Corporate Blue” that was used beginning sometime in the 1940s on the flathead V-8s. the lighter shade of blue was used beginning in the mid 1960s on v-8s including the mustangs.
However, the “special” Mustangs that were assembled or modified by folks like Shelby, Steeda, and others, including the “Boss Mustang” had their own paint colors. The Boss Mustang had a very dark blue shade of paint applied to its engines. Some of the 289 Shelby Cobra engines in 2+2 Mustangs (not Shelby Mustangs) were painted black. The 428 and 429 Shelby GT 500 Mustang engines were the lighter shade of Blue.
The Boss Mustang you are working on could use the shade of blue used in the British Roundels. This would give you something close to the dark blue used on the Boss engines.
