Help w/ the Monogram 1/48th scale F-105G kit

OK, on the sides of the kit’s fuselage, there are a bunch of indentations on the sides. They’re usually square or triangular in shape. Are these holes/vents? If so, what part of the indented shapes should I remove? the sides, or should I go straight into 'em?

Hey Tench,
I know that there are a lot of good ref books on the 105’s but have you checked w/ the Thuds “Walk Around”?
Flaps up,Mike

Unfortuneatly, the last of my modeling “Petty Cash” was taken up buying the kit itself! Any reference books will cost money I don’t have!

The triangular ones sound like NACA ducts, you’ll see these on aircraft & racing cars. The actual hole is oblong and at the rear of the duct. The square holes on the kit are probably vents of some sort for the engine or tanks. Can’t help with a G model, but I do have a quick build review in my files of an F model, from a Brit magazine. The main points on the kit seem to be; the decals are a little thick but settle with micro set/sol. The drop tanks will need filling along the join. Add lots of weight to the nose to avoid tail sitting. The mag by the way, was Scale Aviation Modeller International, April 2000. good Luck

Tenchi, the rectangular holes aft the nose on both sides are gas vents for the gun. Other ducy all along side from front to back are for cooling electronics for the G, and smaller vents to rear are for cooling engine compartment. Shade, dark wash but don’t need cutting.
