Help...Painting Clear Parts on 1/350 Refit

Help!

Okay, what do you gotta do to achieve an even color on the clear parts… specifically the warp nacelles… I’m using clear blue as per the destructions and it looks like ****

I got a feeling this is gonna be one of those airbrush things… any way to do it without an airbrush?

LOL… Well, after spending ENTIRELY too much time stripping the clear blue off… I’m off to the hobbyshop to get an Airbrush (oh darn… lol)

Note to self: Next time listen to Ed BEFORE I screw stuff up… LOL

or you can use built up layers of blue celofane.not sure if I spelled that right

You can buy clear blue in a rattle can…

Hi Lanarian;

Another option. Use food color to dye Future (the acrylic thing for the floors). This product gets really smooth applied with a paintbrush, in fact, no matter how you apply it (you can even spitted if you want [:D] Just kidding). it will get smoother anyways.

If you don’t get satisfied with the result, apply an extensive amount of windex windows glass cleaner.

LOL… The more I read about Future, the more amazed I am…

I just picked some up this last weekend. Question: Would it have the same effect (as food coloring) if I used it as a thinner for the paint? I’m using MM Acryl.

Edit: Okay, I answered my own question (pretty much). I mixed the paint and the future at approx 50/50, and the evenness(?) of the color is awesome. It does have some texturing though (sorta … pebbly?) but I believe that is due to my inexperience with the new airbrush.

[bow][:-^] Now one thing you need to do is practice, practice Practice with your new airbrush. Get ya some old milk jugs, scrap plastic & just work with getting the feel of it first. Then once you feel comfortable, try getting in closer, That’s the best advice right now. Practice…

Thanks again Ed! I’ve read that before, but will definitely re-read it!

Quick update: Through some experimentation, I came across a technique that works great!

Apply a coat of future with a brush, then while the future is still wet apply your paint (in my case, “Clear Blue”). This give an even coat, no brush strokes, and no bubbling. Seemed to work much better than mixing future and paint.
