Help on - Firefly Vc. Turret Interior and Breechblock Detail for Scratchbuild Project

Good Afternoon Everyone;

I hope someone out there in the community can help with this.

My current project on the bench is a Sherman Firefly Vc. I am using the Dragon Kit# 6031. ** I already know that this kit has been reissued, revised reissued**

I have already dealt with the lower hull length and all the other shortcomings of this kit. I received the kit from my wife as a recuperation gift after a disabling injury.

I am doing this as a test of my skills after a long lapse in modeling (17 years). I have the Sherman Firefly “Bible” that was published by Barborossa a few years ago, however it does not cover the Breechblock or a full detail of the turret interior for the Vc. model of the Firefly.

This is where I am stuck, I want to complete this project and move on to something different. So if anyone out there can provide a link a photo or some shred of detail it would be greatly appreciated and will help return my sanity.

Thanks in advance for any and all help. Cheers; Gregory

Welcome back to the hobby. I don’t know if this link will help any, but here it is:

You might also try the Canadian War Museum - Vimy House ofr more info.

You can also try “The Sherman in British Service” published by Osprey. I know they have some plates of the interior of the Vc, though I don’t remember the details.

Thanks to you both Dave, buff.

Dave
Question? What does West Texas via Ontario mean?

buff;
I bought a copy of “The Sherman in British Service” from eBay. You are correct it has some great plates of the interior of the turret and the hull…

However [banghead] OSPREY deleted the entire breechblock and associated detail to fit the page.

Very frustrating but the search continues[soapbox].

Currently I am working on the camouflage nets with full scrim work and finishing the hull interior detail.

I also have the tanks in detail book for Shermans 76mm and 105mm. It has chapter on the Firefly. I’ll take a look after work and let you know what I can find. I’ll also stop by the LHS this afternoon. They have a big reference section, so they might have something too.

Gregory,
i sent an email to your email thru FSM.
i have the Sherman pages from AFV-interiors downloaded, and can mail them to you.
i am ignorant on Sherman stuff, but there does appear to be info on a 105 gunned vehicle. is that the Firefly?
if you want the pages, just respond to the mail i sent and i will get your address from the response.

good luck,
ed.

Buff, Wild WIlliam

Thanks again for the assistance. Any information is always appreciated and if it is not used on this project it is stored for the next or passed on to any who require it.

Ed. Please forward any info you have to my email. Unfortunately the 105 is not the Firefly. The Firefly was armed with a 76.2 mm 17lb main gun. Its turret looked like a dustbin swinging a long broomhandle.

Cheers;

Gregory

Also Hunnicutt’s Sherman book has Firefly interior diagrams, if you can get one through your local library. Sherman, a History of the American Medium Tank, by RP Hunnicutt.

Gregory,
i will send the files to your email,
but i need your address!
send a reply to the message i sent you thru the forum.
(fsm works as a message forwarding service, you have my addy from me messaging you thru fsm, but i don’t have your address. and you can’t send attachments thru fsm, just short messages)

there are some pics here, but only one turret, and i can’t figure out WHAT it is.

Poniatowski - Ron I have been trying for a few months to get a copy of R.P. Hunnicutt’s book. I know it is the definitive reference for Sherman modeling. The only problem is everyone else knows it is too and it makes the bidding on eBay intense and the cost at hobby shows expensive. I will find a copy eventually. Hopefully squirrelled away in some little mom and pop shop with a low price tag…(One can dream)

Thanks again to all. I hope to post some pictures of the build soon.

Cheers;

Gregory

Gregory,
files are sent.
sorry for the size, no help for it!
good luck.

I checked at the LHS and at home this afternoon and I didn’t come up with anything.
