Help needed: Stripping paint and straightening of old Promos

Hello all,

I am a modeller and model collector from Germany and need some help.
Trying to restorate some old and warped JO HAN and AMT Promos of the
end of the 1950s I need help how to strip paint and how to straighten these models.

Many years ago I tried to remove paint from the roof of a 1958 Olds Promo by using
breake fluid. The result was, that the roof shrunk more and more and even after some
days drips of breake fluid came out of the roof. As it was a 4dr model, I even
couldn´t make a convertible of it…

Second problem is, how to straighten the car bodies. As the warpage of the promos was not
caused by heat ( in this case one could bend the body back to its original form), but by
a chemical process, rebending/reshaping in warm water or using a hair dryer probably
would break the material because it has shrunk, when the softeners left the plastic
material over the years in a chemical reaction.

Maybe one of you can help me or send me a link to special Promo websites?

Any help highly appreciated.

Modellers greetings from Germany.

Hello Woxel!

Please read a few topics down in this forum. “Hot to Safely Strip Paint”

I believe it is too late now to save your old models if you used brake fluid. Dangerous technique anyway! That stuff melts paint from REAL autos!

Sorry Man, HTH!
