My father wants to model a Korean war Skyraider. I see most of if not all the kits available come with Vietnam era decals. Are the Skyraiders pretty much unchanged in appearance so that some after market decals would make this work? Thanks.
There were no major changes in the airplanes, so the right decals should make a convincing model. There were several different versions of the Skyraider, though. Tamiya makes a very good AD-6/A-1H, if you want the single seat version. ESCI made the version with crew in back with side doors, and Matchbox made the AD-5/A-1E with the big greenhouse.
John, thanks for that info. Mark
Revell made a 1/40 scale model of the Skyraider. It was the Navy version of the AD-6 (AH-1). It has folding wings, dive brakes, arresting hook and removable cowling to show the engine. It is kit H-269-198. Monogram also made a couple of different versions in 1/48 scale.
There are several detail differences between the 50s and 60s ADs. Things like an ejection seat-not fitted in Korea, Cannon armament- 2 or 4… small things are what set them apart…
