Help needed on sdkfz 250 3 :

HI Guys

I have not posted in a while, or worked on the big tiger 1. Instead I have been working on my 1/6th scale sdkfz 250/3.

I started this project over a year ago and it’s still in gray primer and I am working on small details.

this is what I need help with. I know the hinges are not correct, but I have to work with what I have. I added small bolts to them for some extra detail.

I found this picture for the side hatches

but the top is another story. I just can not find a (clear ) picture of the latch for the top engine hatches.

anyone have a good picture ? It would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect the engine hatches used a key lock like the SdKfz 251 series.

However, if I can ask a question: granted you haven’t replicated exactly the hinges – but I should think that adding the extra bolts just adds to the inaccuracy. Why not omit them or go whole hog and replicate as the originals?

I know it’s a balance between “good enough” and not “good enough” – I do plenty of scratchbuiliding myself – however I wouldn’t have added the bolts.

yes, I think your correct. I hate the look of the hinges. There are a number of “inaccuracies” in this Armor Hobbies kit. And at 1/6th scale they stand out.

I can get these

for about $5.00 each, cast resin… They look about right. BUT, it’s going to be a lot of work getting them installed… I wonder if I will ever finish this thing !! I am going to order the hinges tonight.

Do you have a picture of the 251 key lock ?

that is just what I am looking for. That machine is a sdkfz 250 “neu” but I would guess it is the same.

the same sort of " thingie" that can ( just ) be seen in the picture…

I can not cast anything, but I can make myself one of those !!

I ordered the 10 hinges I need for the machine… More money and time, but it’s for the best…

After looking at these pictures I noticed the front edges of the two engines hatch doors are not “rounded” to the same degree… I don’t think I will ever finish this %^*&@# thing…

With the help of those “gold mine” pictures, the engine hatches are looking good

replacement hinges on the way…

I moved to the rear door.

this is what the stock kit looks like.

I did:

new hinges

rivets

tarp hold down

door handle

I will take this thread no further. I will give you a complete A to Z build when I have time. As i said before, I have been working on this thing for over a year and have lots to show you…
